As next-generation networks are deployed to support an increasingly diverse mix of high-bandwidth applications, network vendors and data center operators need to rapidly scale packet processing capability while both minimizing capex/opex and preserving the flexibility to adapt to future connectivity standards. To meet these requirements, Xilinx is excited to announce the latest addition to the Kintex® UltraScale+™ FPGA portfolio: the Kintex UltraScale+ KU19P FPGA. The KU19P FPGA delivers the optimized mix of resources and high-throughput connectivity needed to efficiently accelerate network processing while maintaining the strong balance of performance, price, and power inherent to the entire Kintex FPGA portfolio.

No longer is a single form of isolation enough to protect security-critical assets, such as crypto keys, algorithms, etc. In a Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) architecture, multiple layers of protection are in place to maximize the protection of security-critical assets. These layers of protection include both isolated hardware and isolated software. A TEE is applicable to most markets , but is extremely useful in connected devices such as automobiles, data center, and IoT, which have a higher probability of being attacked.

SoCs are becoming more heterogeneous, with multiple CPU clusters and special-purpose accelerators. As a result, asymmetric multiprocessor (AMP) systems need to be able to run different operating environments side-by-side on the same device. Until now, however, there has been no standard shared memory scheme for the configuration and interaction between these environments. By creating standards and open source frameworks, the OpenAMP project simplifies the creation of these mixed systems. Becoming a Linaro Community Project enables a more formal collaborative approach to driving much needed standardization.

What is XSWG, and how is it going to help protect Industrial and Healthcare IoT assets?

200+ users are following Xilinx’s call to join the 2019 Xilinx Security Working Group (XSWG) events in San Jose, CA, Longmont, CO, Washington, D.C, and Munich, Germany. In our fifth year of hosting XSWGs, each of these four worldwide events are vivid and interactive exchanges between Xilinx customers, partners, and industry authorities. Xilinx architects, field application engineers (FAEs), and strategy owners from Xilinx’s market segments (industrial, vision, healthcare & sciences, automotive, and aerospace & defense) gather to teach, learn, and share security information. Xilinx’s Center of Excellence for Safety and Security guides the participants through the sessions with in-depth presentations and previewed information about innovations that will be released later this year - under NDA, of course.

One of the most critical bottlenecks in building hardware architectures for complex datapath workloads is the speed of the memory subsystem. With the two latest additions to  Alveo™ accelerator card portfolio, the Alveo U50 and Alveo U280, we set out to eliminate that bottleneck by integrating high bandwidth memory gen2 (HBM2) into each. HBM2 is stacked DRAM memory, located in-package to shrink the power and PCB footprint—but it also provides astounding memory bandwidth of 460GB/s. This amount of memory bandwidth is enough to eliminate the memory bottlenecks seen in complex compute and data intensive workloads, and it fully unlocks the incredibly parallel capability of FPGAs.

From our friends at Cyber Defense Magazine, here are a few notable cybersecurity statistics for 2019:

  1. In most cases, it takes half a year to detect a data breach
  2. Over 75% of the healthcare industry has been infected with malware over the last year
  3. 95% of cybersecurity breaches are due to human error—phishing attacks are the most common cybersecurity attack
