Hi I have the Radeon version 18.4.1 but attempt to update new driver 18.5.1/18.5.2 but getting black screen during installation and System boots unexpectedly!!! and also getting bug check error!!! I have used AMD cleanup utility,DDU and Driver sweeper to uninstall the old Driver prior to install new Driver. Something is very wrong with this new Driver, I had have installed 200+ Driver but never seen this kind of behavior. Mobo Bios is up to date as well as Window 10.

So what I have done uninstall and reinstall 18.4.1 to see if there is a some kind Hardware failure but Driver 18.4.1 install without a issue like it did before so driver 18.5.1 and 18.5.2 are the problem, not my System...…………..
Please can you try updating to 18.6.1 and let me know if you experience the same issue?
After three hours of trying to install new 18.6.1 has failed!!! Same issue as I faced before!!! Screen goes black during installation then reboot System after two minutes, I have tried just to install the Driver or express install or custom install but none work...…...
Is your OS installed on your Nvme drive? If so, please could you try disconnecting your Raid Sata SSDs with your system powered off, and then try installing 18.6.1? I would like to see if the system locks up with just one hard drive connected.
Yes OS is in Nvme Drive...……..
Okay, please try my suggestion above and remove the Sata cables from those drives temporarily and try to install the drivers. After you've tried that you can power the system off and reconnect them.
That's very strange!! What SSD in raid has to do with AMD Display Driver? It did install with 18.4.1 and previous Drivers...…………...
I saw similar behaviour on my system on a first install attempt, albeit with an AMD Raid setup. Upon a second installation attempt everything went smoothly however in my case.
If 18.4.1 or previous Driver install just fine then the culprit is new Amd Driver 18.5.1/18.5.2/18.6.1
Please can you try adjusting a BIOS setting? Over the weekend i was able to narrow down the issue i experienced, which sounds similar to yours and adjusting this setting resolved the issue.
Please navigate to the BIOS > Boot Menu > CSM Mode and set it to UEFI and Legacy OPROM and let me know if you experience the same issue after making the change.
It didn’t work

I'm sorry to hear that. Unfortunately we have not had any similar reports so I'm not sure why you experience this issue.
Can you confirm the exact make and mode of the GPU you are using? Is it a reference design or AIB design (custom)Vega?
What BIOS version is installed on the GPU?
What PCI-E lane are you using?
Do you have any other devices in the PCI-E lanes?
Can you try resetting BIOS settings to default prior to installing the drivers?
Hi it's in my first Post, I was able to install the Driver 18.6.1 after the first BSOD, Uninstall with DDU/AMD Cleanup Utility/Driver sweeper then reinstall just the Display Driver then install AMD Setting but big Question is ,why I am getting BSOD with 18.5.1/18.5.2/18.6.1 but not with other previous Drivers??
I'm not sure at the moment, but please submit a bug report so that if we get similar reports we can compare. www.amd.com/report.
I did submit a Bug report last week and No answer from AMD YET!!!!!!!!!
The issue reporting form is just a place to submit a bug, you won't receive a response.
I would recommend to keep using the last working driver for now until we release an updated driver.
Same thing happened...………….
And why I am not seeing my Thread?
vega 64 freesync 2 dont working any driver adrenalin 18.x.x at all plz quick to fix i better to driver 17.11.4 working fine
Same, also using a Vega 64, when using an old driver it works fine.
So lot of Peoples are having same issue with new Drivers [APU+GPU] with Vega 64/56 and old Drivers18.4.1 or previous works just fine!!!!!
Pls disable VSR and gpu scaling. These options are bugged. I have BSOD after VSR enabling after 10-15minutes
AMD PLS RELEASE NEW DRIVER ASAP AND FIX THIS ERROR.
Forget about VSR!!! can't even install the Dam Driver...……..
They can't just "fix" an issue (even more something like this), if we want this issue to be fixed, we have to post informations so AMD can reproduce it and fix it.
I start:
Specs:
Monitors
What i tried:
When the problem happens
Black screen right after logging in, it doesn't just black screen, the whole PC is also frozen (monitors looses signal), RESET doesn't do anything, long press power button doesn't help either, only way is by pulling out the power cable.
Additionnal observations:
18.2 and earlier works perfectly fine, but once 18.5+ is installed, even after DDU in safe mode and reinstalling an older driver, black screening will still happen, the only way once 18.5 is installed is to reinstall Windows or by not using any video drivers.
18.5+ only works after installed IF the pc isn't rebooted, once it is, black screening will occur.
18.5+ Also have an issue with monitor Pixel format, for some reason my screens are too bright like it's using limited RGB pixel format (but it is YCBCR 4:4:4) what i have to do to fix it is to switch from YCBCR 4:4:4 to something else, then back to YCBCR 4:4:4, everytime the system restarts. 18.2 isn't affected by this either.
18.6.1 is also causing black screens.
My system is perfectly stable, no problems during extended stress testing.
ALERT
My Windows Installation can now boot, doesn't black screen after logging in, and works correctly (still on 18.2) after uninstalling Asus AI SUITE 3.
If you have anything like AI SUITE 3 installed (Overclocking, monitoring tools...) go ahead and uninstall it.
Mentioned a jillion times on the forum....Third Party graphics controllers conflict with AMD Wattman settings and controls. Delete them from your computer.
AI Suite 3 is NOT a "graphics controllers" also MSI Afterburner works perfectly fine, this is a separate issue.
AI suite contains graphics controller...And it seems to be THE issue..not separate. Fixed your problem didn't it?
The problem is, when you install the suite, registry changes are made that conflict with Wattman. In particular, EPU and Fan Expert.
You're pushing total nonsense.
"Mentioned a jillion times on the forum" This issue is still very recent, you're literally assuming things without testing anything.
That's what i'm saying.
Your topics are years old, this issue HERE is very recent (only two months, and this issue started to happen after 18.5, read title.) and yet you're saying out of nowhere, without doing any testing, that "graphics controllers" are the issue.
AI Suite can't do overclocking or even monitor a GPU, MSI Afterburner can, but doesn't cause issues.
Please stop, you're actually not helping, you're trying to prove nonsense over facts, we don't need that.
Whatever dude...at least you solved your problem by deleting it.
Thank you very much my friend! You are the hero. Your advice is much better than anything else on this forum by official amd members.
Solution: Clear Win10 ( even if your system is working perfectly) + 18.2.
Thank you very much!
(too bad i have to redownload all my uwp games, but now i have a working card.)
