Hi I have the Radeon version 18.4.1 but attempt to update new driver 18.5.1/18.5.2 but getting black screen during installation and System boots unexpectedly!!! and also getting bug check error!!! I have used AMD cleanup utility,DDU and Driver sweeper to uninstall the old Driver prior to install new Driver. Something is very wrong with this new Driver, I had have installed 200+ Driver but never seen this kind of behavior. Mobo Bios is up to date as well as Window 10.

We have updated the title of this discussion with relevant details to better describe your issue.
Solved! Go to Solution.
So far no problem with new Driver 18.7.1
Lesson 1: Never! update your working AMD driver.
I am also getting this issue.
Win 10 64bit
4690k
16GB Ram
R9 290
Once windows logs on, it a black screen and the system locks up (my speakers start buzzing due to hang)
I had problems with 18.5 and 18.6 also. The drivers would install, but about one time in four, I'd get a black screen of death during bootup. I went all the way back to 18.2 and the problem is gone.
My System...
ASRock X370 Gaming K4 motherboard with up to date UEFI, 16 GB RAM, AMD 1700 CPU, MSI RX480 video card, Windows 10 x64, also up to date...
In troubleshooting this problem, I used DDU to uninstall and reinstall. I also reset both my motherboard and video card setting to factory defaults. I made sure everything else was clean and up to date.
AMD, there IS a problem with this driver.
New Driver 18.7.1 install just fine...…………..
So far no problem with new Driver 18.7.1
