Hey all,

I just built a new PC. You can check out the specs here: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/pkXzQP

My main game is Rust and I chose the 7950x3D because it's supposed to be the best processor for that game. With this setup, I should be getting 200+ frames on pretty much any settings I choose in rust - but on just 1080p with high settings (there's still very high and ultra above that), I'm bouncing between 90-150ish normally. A friend of mine with a worse card, worse cpu, ultra settings, and 1440p is nearly getting the same amount of fps as I am.

I've updated my bios and drivers, used AMD Chipset Software Installer, enabled XMP for my ram. I'm not the best with computers so I'm not sure what else to do. My worry is that I installed something incorrectly when building the computer.

Hi, 

Probably the scheduler to prioritize the X3D cores to the game and if game is all you do, maybe you should've went with the 7800X3D.

What scheduler are you  talking about, johnnyenglish? The OS schedules the task to the cores. John.

As @johnnyenglish states, with the 7900X3D and 7950X3D you must enable Game Mode and use the Game Bar app so that the processor can park the non-3Dcache CCD cores to prevent cross-CCD latency.

The Ryzen Master reference guide details how to disable cores on page 40. Note this guide is for version 2.9 so some details may have changed. It doesn't appear AMD has published a newer guide.

The advantage of using Windows Game Mode and the Game Bar app is that it is supposed to work automagically. It detects when you launch a game and parks the non-3Dcache CCD so the game plays only on the CCD cores with the 3Dcache.

Thanks, FunkZ. Unfortunately AMD documents have a certain redolence, in this case not pleasant. If they do exist, they are often out of date. My guess is AMD developers present to their management: "...do you want cutting edge processors or documentation?..."

You can verify the core parking behavior with Ryzen Master by having that open and then launching a game.

I would also suggest using a graphics benchmark such as 3DMark to check whether your system is performing on average to other similar systems.
