"nostalgic" AMD/ATI graphic cards

Well, I could not find such a thread, so here it is. For now, we stick with AMD/ATI cards up to HD 7xxx/8xxx series. Please post and share your pictures and memories if you like.

I do start with my trusty HD 4770 with the original reference cooler, not the egg shaped one. It also was the first GPU built in 40 nm and yes it still works.

I don't think I really have many pictures of my older cards. I wasn't really worried about pictures too much 20 years ago. My first ATI card I bought new was a Radeon 9000 Pro 64 MB.  I'll see if I can dig up some pictures of something old.

What a great post @Dragokar! Thank you!

If we end up getting more than a dozen, (the more the better), we can create a banner for the Red Team Home page or the Red Team Community page. What do you think?

I gonna post another one as soon someone else posts something with pictures 😉

I'll have to go to my tube set to take some pics. I keep them on display (see video)

But I came from Matrox to ATi, before it changed to AMD. Sure, I had nvidia but it was only a couple of graphics cards. The riva tnt2 and the first geforce.

The ones I can remember ..

Cirrus Logic, S3 (the Trio and Virge), ATi 3D Rage II+ but it kind of disapointed me so I ended with the Matrox G200/G400/G450 (tried the Parhelia but even the ATi 9000PRO would beat it) so I changed course to ATi.

Then I had:

Radeon 9000PRO
Radeon 9200SE
2x Radeon 9700PRO (one is still in use as it is the 9700 Mobility version in a functional laptop)
Radeon 9800PRO
Radeon RX1950
Radeon 4870 and a 4890
Radeon 6870
Radeon RX480

The only one I didn't had but tried, because it was so much expensive back then, was the 3Dfx Voodoo 2.

Oh my goodness, @johnnyenglish I'd forgotten about Matrox! Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Matrox established in the early 1980s? They made video games too, right?

Don't know about games, but they made legendary cards back in the day, until Parhelia. After that they used AMD GPUs btw. 😉

Here is another sample from my collection, The HD 2900 XT, in this case labelled as 512 Mb and 1Gb and yes it is working.

They still exist, but only for niche markets like medical. I remember that I saw some tech demos but actual games, im not sure.

They were pretty good but low investment and not believing in the rising of gamers market made them go away.

Millennium cards G400 kicked nvidias TNT2 chip and that speaks a lot at that time.

I was just given a Radeon 4850 by a buddy, so it will go into one of my builds for retro gaming on the LAN.  Very plain looking card LOLIMG_0934.jpg

Could be a DELL, HP or some other OEM one.

My first AMD GPU was the XFX HD 6670R 1GB DDR3 the X1300 Pro came from a yard sale a few years back. I still don't know if the X1300 Pro works but the HD 6670 worked when I upgraded years ago. That thing worked for so many games that I feel like it shouldn't have.

Hello, Everyone,

These are awesome! Please keep them coming! Thank you @cpurpe91 😉

@johnnyenglish can you grab a few pictures of the "vintage" old ATI GPUs (and/or boxes) you've featured in your video and post them here?

I think we'll need a total of 12 images to make the banner.

@Amber_AMD @Wally_AMD Everyone, what do you think? Are 12 images enough? I'm thinking of a "mosaic" banner made of these images, with a splash of Red!

Another Sapphire branded card, the HD 6950 2Gb GDDR5. Fans are dusty and not working right now, but I have spare ones and going to replace them.

I had one of these.  It died from a lightning strike in 2011.  A Sapphire 6950 (overclocked).

If it ain't broke; don't fix it!

Here are some that I could take right now.

6870 which is still a.. barely usable card today.

ATi 4870, this one performed like a champ for its time.

I no longer have the card, gave it to my brother, unfortunately, never got it back.

That's not originally mine, but someone gave it to me so I could try at least once the power of CrossFire.

Well you posted this about 3 weeks too late.  I can post this HIS Radeon X1650 PRO in the original box.  I have 2 of these that I ran as dual cards on an Athlon 2400 ( I think that was the number).  Anyway I say it was late I just recycled my old HD 9800 PRO, get this AGP, that is why I recycled it.  Had the original box for it too.  Somebody posted about keeping boxes and I replied.

Now I kinda regret that I gave it away to my ex girlfriend....

1GB of Vram. Jesus, how the times have changed! 😂

Leonidas - Ryzen 7 5800X3D | MBA RX 6800 XT Midnight Black | Be Quiet 802 Silent Base (Main)
Maximus - Ryzen 7 3700x | Power Color Fighter RX 6700 XT | Fractal Ridge ITX Case (HTPC)

I was thinking the same thing. I remember back in the day when I would read 1 GB and would drool at thought of it 😂

Thank you all for contributing to this "project". I think we've reached critical mass! I'm traveling this weekend (going to CNE Gaming Garage to represent Red Team!) but I'll be sure to ping our designer to get the banner started!

Thank you again!

Hey everyone!

Circling back here with an exciting update to this legendary thread: Thanks to all of you who contributed, we've been able to obtain an awesome banner (thanks to our design team) showcasing a handful of these vintage cards! Check it out:

Our team went with a vintage polaroid type of design, and we thought it was a nice touch! Our team went with a vintage polaroid type of design, and we thought it was a nice touch!

We might have some other things cooking to go along with this 👀, but just wanted to drop by to everyone who contributed and share what happens when this community collabs like this!

This thread makes me want to go on Ebay and see how many old ATI-AMD graphics cards I can find to display in my gaming setup. It would be so cool to have the boxes too. Honestly, I'd want some nVidia cards too. The boxes from years ago had such cool graphics. Many of the cards also had really cool graphics on their heatsink shrouds as well.

I told ya that I have more. 😉 This time, it is a XFX Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition DD with the Pitcairn XT. I hope you like it, I think these cards had an amazing look and also good performance for the price.
