Which Series is AMD RYZEN5 1600 AF

I am trying to find out which series processor the AMD RYZEN5 1600 AF belongs to please.

I would like to use it with a Motherboard that states "MSI X570-A PRO Motherboard ATX, AM4, DDR4, LAN, USB 3.2 Gen2, Type-C, M.2, HDMI, AMD RYZEN 2nd and 3rd Gen"

So I want to be sure the combination works

The Ryzen 5 1600AF is basically a 2nd Generation Ryzen 5 2600 processor: AMD Ryzen 5 1600 AF Review - TechSpot

But what is this Ryzen 5 1600 AF?

Late last year a mysterious Ryzen 5 1600 refresh made it to market. Bizarrely, AMD released a really cheap version of the Ryzen 5 2600, but just called it the Ryzen 5 1600. Known as the "Ryzen 5 1600 AF" because of the box identification, it’s very different to the original Ryzen 5 1600 AE model.

Forget about the name, this is a 2nd-gen Ryzen part. Essentially it’s an R5 2600 with a slight decrease in clock speed. Apparently AMD didn’t have enough 14nm wafers available to keep producing the R5 1600, so they simply shifted it to the 12nm process and now they’re making a version of the R5 2600 that they call the R5 1600.

I don't see that processor listed under your motherboard's CPU SUPPORT LIST: Support For X570-A PRO | Motherboard - The world leader in motherboard design | MSI Global lists all the 1600AF compatible motherboards:

YET, this website does mention your motherboard as supporting that processor:

Your best bet is to open a MSI SUPPORT TICKET and see if that processor is supported on that specific Motherboard.

Thank you for the replies elstaci. I understand that the key is in the first number of the model, so 1600 is 1 series, 2600 is 2 series etc.

I looked at the CPU support list for that board and decided to go for the Ryzen 5 2600 which IS listed as a supported processor, and the 1600 AF to all intents is the 2600 reading around.
