GPU driver crashes when turning on second monitor.

Hi.

I have been using RX 6800XT for a couple of months now without major issues.

Troubles began after installing semi-recent Adrenaline drivers. Often when I turn on or off second monitor my GPU driver crashes and while I am in game, it can happen while alt tabbing to check something on second monitor.

When I reinstalled older drivers, like for example "24.10.1" the issues stopped. But some games won't run because the driver is outdated

I use two 1080p monitors, one 75Hz (HDMI) and second 144Hz (DP).

Okay since you are saying that in a older AMD Driver version your PC with dual Displays works fine without crashing but as soon as you update the AMD driver and use the second display it crashes.

By your post it clearly seems like a AMD Driver issue.  It is possible the latest AMD Driver has some new feature that is not fully supported by your second Display thus crashing.

Also since your second Display using 144hz DP might be a reason for problems.

Try connecting just the 144hz Display and see if it crashes with the latest AMD driver installed. If it does then you would need to troubleshoot to find out why it is crashing only with the 144hz display connected.

If it doesn't crash, now connect your 75hz Display and see if the same thing occurs.

Since your PC works fine with an older AMD driver version installed would rule out PSU being under powered.

I would open a AMD SUPPORT TICKET and see what they suggest from here: https://www.amd.com/en/forms/contact-us/support.html

NOTE: What are the exact Error messages or BSOD errors you are getting?

I have the same problem. New PC with fresh 6750XT bought for Xmas, 750W PSU dual monitor setup, all new updated drivers, and everytime I open something on the second screen or Alt+Tab while in game, both my monitor screen turn black for couple of seconds, the game closes itself and AMD drivers shut-off, giving a error window "AMD software has detected that a driver timeout has occurred on your system. We have generated a report on the issue that can be sent to AMD so that we can improve our software. Would you like to report this problem?" + "General. Default performance tuning settings have been restored due to an unexpected system failure." in the notification area.

Already tried to:

  • Reset Adrenaline settings to default;
  • Uninstall Graphic Driver with DDU and reinstall it;
  • Turn off MPO from RegEdit.
