FreeBSD Graphics Drivers

Hello.

I'm a FreeBSD user since 2016 and an all AMD (CPU and GPU) user since 2014. My first CPU was an FX 8350. I'M now using a Ryzen 7 5800X. I was wondering if in the near future perhaps AMD could work on a graphics driver for FreeBSD. I'm currently using an XFX R9 270 (since 2014) and I'd like to upgrade to an RX 6600 or 6700. Unfortunately FreeBSD does not yet have support for these cards. Support may come next year, but who knows?

Are there any plans for a FreeBSD driver.

Thanks very much for your time. Keep up the great work!

Personally there isn't enough Users using FreeBSD OS for AMD to create drivers for it.

Something less then .01% use FreeBSD OS: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usage_share_of_operating_systems

So you will have to open a FreeBSD Support ticket to see if they can add newer AMD Drivers for the Operating System.

No worries. Thanks for the quick answer. I hope AMD change their minds. Other cards are well supported. But I understand AMD's position. I don't know how much work is needed to adapt Linux drivers to work on FreeBSD.

Anyway, I hope it happens one day

Like I mentioned, it is just my opinion. I can't talk for AMD. Maybe they will come out with new drivers for FreeBSD in the near future.

FreeBSD is a Unix type OS but has lots of similarities to Linux. From what I read there are hundreds of developers that work on FreeBSD. Possibly one of them will try to modify the current AMD Drivers to work in FreeBSD.

I second this. Even if its the 0.1%, I think that number will grow in the years to come. 26 years using Linux here while most of my hardware comes in the AMD form. I would be thrilled if something gets done. Perhaps a collaboration with FreeBSD developers just makes sense.

Excuse me for my incompetence. Wouldn't a company's mission also be to conquer new market segments, to create new opportunities for itself? According to Sun Tzu if you chase your opponents on the ground congenial to him, you can only lose. A reason also to think about the concept of open-source, open systems, inter-compatibility. Thanks.
