major artifacting in games with my 6900xt. should i RMA?

i've been trying to troubleshoot why cyberpunk would crash every 10-15 minutes. i thouhgt it was maybe cause i was playing in windowed borderless. used GOG to verify and repair game files. uninstalled and reinstalled the game, the launcher. same for GPU. uninstalled and reinstalled everything with DDU and then tried again with amd tool.

then i decided to move on and try another game. i tried RDR2.. and the artifacting is worse. giant black flashing artifacts on a new game. in the sky, in the snow etc..

should i RMA or is there really anything i could do?

What driver version are you using?

Have you tried a Factory Reset before updating to 21.9.2 drivers?

Is your Windows OS clean, when did you last reinstall/update the OS?

What Display cable are you using? Have you tried a different cable?

Have you tried a selective start-up to ensure no background applications could be causing the issue?

To reboot in a selective startup:

  • Press WINDOWS-R on the keyboard to bring up the Run window, enter MSCONFIG and click OK.
  • Under the General tab, click "Normal startup" if it is not selected already.
  • Under the Services tab, put a check on "Hide All Microsoft Services" and then click "Disable All."
  • Under the Startup tab, these will still be disabled in Windows 10 in the Task Manager.
  • Click OK on the MSCONFIG window, and then click Restart when prompted.

If you have tried all of the above, it could be faulty. It certainly looks like it could be faulty to me.

just came back from work. i'll answer what i can now, and do everything else after i take a shower.
BTW, ticket for RMA is 8201136984 @Matt_AMD

What driver version are you using? latest drivers, since i got my gpu the 21st of september.

Have you tried a Factory Reset before updating to 21.9.2 drivers? Not applicable

Is your Windows OS clean, when did you last reinstall/update the OS? yes it's a brand new build as stated. only part that wasnt part of the build was the "placeholder" a GTX 770 that i took from my old PC. even tho it wasnt that powerful, i was able to play all my games just "fine" (everything on mostly low/med for graphics, with maybe 60 fps is lucky). i used DDU and later while troubleshooting Cyberpunk i used the AMD tool that is shared on the cyberpunk troubleshooting page.

What Display cable are you using? Have you tried a different cable? using a display port for the Samsung monitor and HDMI for the secondary Dell monitor. i did not use any other cables, i didnt see the point tbh, since the setup was perfect on my old PC.

Have you tried a selective start-up to ensure no background applications could be causing the issue? No, will do this right after my shower in a few minutes.

here's some videos that i took real quick a few minutes ago:

What driver version are you using? lastest driver, got my GPU the 21st of september

Have you tried a Factory Reset before updating to 21.9.2 drivers? i always do fresh installs or clean installs from the drivers' option. but i don't think this applies, since i had the latest drivers.

Is your Windows OS clean, when did you last reinstall/update the OS? fresh install, like i said it's a new build. windows i always up to date. only "old" part i had was a placeholder gtx 770 while waiting for the 6900xt

What Display cable are you using? Have you tried a different cable? Display port for the Samsung (main screen), HDMI for the Dell (secondary screen). i have not tried another cable. since everything was fine on the old PC and also the new PC (with gtx 770)

Have you tried a selective start-up to ensure no background applications could be causing the issue? yes, same thing.

videos i took after work, sorry for the quality. but artifacts are present.. also witcher 3 is just CTD all the time.

Can you test the GPU on a different system altogether to confirm the fault?

I'll try on my gf's PC. She has a 3800x and a 6800xt

Great. I hope she has a PSU that meets the minimum requirements for the 6900 XT of 850W.

We have same builds when it comes to specs. She has a 1000w PSU from EVGA. CPU and GPU are 1 tier lower. But they are the same mostly.

There is no danger that my GPU breaks something btw? I'd feel so bad if something happened to her PC

I wouldn't have thought so. It will either show the same issue or work fine. If it shows the same issue, you can proceed with a RMA.

the RMA process is ongoing. ticket number 8201136984

i only get 1 email per day with generic troubleshooting steps that i've already tried tho. so not sure how long it'll take before they get to more "serious?" troubleshooting.

my gf is done with work around 5pm. so i'll be testing the GPU as soon as possible. i might have to DL some AAA title to test it tho, i don't think she has downloaded any games yet, it's a new build for her too.

will update as soon as i have more news

hey, im back from the shop, gf's pc will be available for testing. do i just replace the 6800xt with the 6900xt? do i need to install the drivers for the 6900xt? or radeon software will take care of everything? is it the same "generic" driver?

Weekend didn't go as planned. My problem is still not resolved. Haven't got any news from the person in charge of my RMA claim. Would be nice to have some news from them.

Took the time to roll back to 21.2.3 some people reported the driver was more stable for them. I wasn't lucky. I also tested Anno 1800, artifacts for 10-15 seconds and CTD

Hope you had a great weekend.

Tried the 6900xt in my gf PC. Witcher 3 is installed so I tried that. The game launches. But I get a CTD as soon as I finish loading a game file.. so same thing as i get on my PC.

Btw, not quite sure why, but her water-cooler has major coil whine. Sorry for that

Edit: I did install 21.10.1
