Saphire rx 6800 16G OC + Ryzen 5 5600x Blackscreen crash

Hello Guys,

So I've built myself a new computer for the first time (So please have mercy on me if i dont get things instantly), and i've experienced a lot of black screen crashes while playing some games on higher settings.
So far i've had crashes while playing CoD: Warzone while turning raytracing on and Cyberpunk on Ultra and sometimes even on medium settings.
I get a blackscreen, the sound gets stuck and the LEDs on mouse and keyboard begin to flicker. The Monitor doesnt seem to get a signal from the PC anymore.
After that the computer doesnt react to anything and the only way to stop it is a hard reset by pressing the power button.
I've tried reinstalling the drivers, changing the voltage on the GPU and making a clean reboot. None of that worked.
I've also run some diagnostics with Furmark, GPU-Z and LinX. None of the values really seem to be out of the order for me. Also i can run Furmark on high settings without and problems and LinX also gives me back good results without crashes (Even if both run at the same time).

Specs:

CPU: Ryzen 5 5600x 6-Core 3,7 Ghz
GPU: Sapphire Radeon RX 6800 16G OC
MBO: Gigabyte x570 Gaming X
PSU: Be Quiet straight Power 11 750W
RAM: 16GB G.SKill Aegis DDR4 3200 Dual

I appreciate any suggestions to what i could try to fix the issue,

Thanks a lot in advance!

hi,

1. update your BIOS to lastest
2. do a CMOS reset (and leave everything on auto)
3. test again

4. enable "above 4G decoding" in BIOS
5. test again

6. increase powerlimit by 15%
7. test again

PC: R7 2700X @PBO + RX 580 4G (1500MHz/2000MHz CL16) + 32G DDR4-3200CL14 + 144hz 1ms FS P + 75hz 1ms FS
Laptop: R5 2500U @30W + RX 560X (1400MHz/1500MHz) + 16G DDR4-2400CL16 + 120Hz 3ms FS

Will try that!

So i've tried the first 2 methods and now i encounter a different kind of crash.
Now it seems only the GPU is crashing. I get a blackscreen but the sound stays for a few moments and the LEDs on my mouse and keyboard stay on.
But now the compuiter crashes instantly upon entering the game...

Could you tell me which power limits i have to increse (which lines in the BIOS) ?

It seems to go the right way, thank you

power limit in Wattman (in AMD Driver)

btw - if game crashes instantly:

run DDU in safe-mode to clean old driver - then install 20.12.1

PC: R7 2700X @PBO + RX 580 4G (1500MHz/2000MHz CL16) + 32G DDR4-3200CL14 + 144hz 1ms FS P + 75hz 1ms FS
Laptop: R5 2500U @30W + RX 560X (1400MHz/1500MHz) + 16G DDR4-2400CL16 + 120Hz 3ms FS

ok i reinstalled the drivers and increased the max power by 15%.

Its stable if i turn down the frequency to 85 - 90%, but as soon as i run games on full capacity it crashes after a few minutes in.

is it the pulse or the nitro card?

maybe card is broken.

do you run MSI Afterburner? or any app that gives an overlay?` (Rivatuner, steam overlay, uplay overlay etc)

neither of those, just Sapphire 16GB Radeon RX 6800 16G
Is there any way to find out if its broken?

I tried using MSI afterbruner in order to do diagnosis and while i play cyberpunk i have to run steam in the background

1. disable Steam Overlay in settings for Cyberpunk (then test with Cyberpunk)
2. also close MSI Afterburner + RivaTuner (because its another overlay that can do weird stuff)

you can test your GPU at a friends PC - or you simply RMA it (i best hopes)

here some other fixes:

A: do a CMOS reset - and leave everything at "AUTO" in BIOS (no XMP etc)
B: use DDU in safe-mode to clean old AMD and/or Nvidia driver
C: do a fresh install of Win10 20H2

PC: R7 2700X @PBO + RX 580 4G (1500MHz/2000MHz CL16) + 32G DDR4-3200CL14 + 144hz 1ms FS P + 75hz 1ms FS

I'll try all of that tomorrow.

What does RMA mean?

Also i've just read a thread about it being a common problem with the 6800/6900 suddenly having power spikes and melting the PSU...

Thanks a lot for your help so far!

I'm having a very similiar issue. My PC freezes in the same way. It only happens at BeamNG Drive. Power Supply is a 700W Bequiet Gold. Ran DDU Windows 10 is freshly installed 1 month ago. With higher and lower power limits the same issue. And Radeon RX 580 runs fine in the same System so it's definetly a GPU/Power Supply issue. Any Battlefield is crashing me to Desktop after a random amount of time as well.

I can see in all threads one solution "do ddu an it will fix everything", it's repeated like mantra, and from what I can see, in 99% of cases it did nothing.

it's not a bug, it's feature

@BrainsCollector

often DDU fixes a corrupt driver install - its always worth a try

but if there is a HW defect or instable OC than DDU wont fix it...

When checking the recommended PSU for your graphics card, it seems to be 850w and not 750w, as you currently use. The AMD graphics card are known for having huge spikes of voltage occurring from time to time during load and perhaps even during normal usage and it may therefore be stable during times, and then an influx of increase voltage occurs suddenly, and if your PSU is not strong enough, the system may crash or reboot.

As for the common black screen issue, this is mainly fixed by reinstalling your graphics drivers with a factory reset and deletion of saved precepts. You do a factory reset in the beginning of the driver installation. This fix has always worked for my own black screen issues, and I use a Vega 56.

As for my self, I specifically bought a 1000w PSU for my Sapphire Vega 56 graphics card in order to comply with the 700w PSU recommendation, and in order to future proof my self.

If you try a stronger PSU, at least a 850w to 1000w, your sudden black screen issues of your system may be avoided.
