5600x3d safe at 84c on a 64 percent load?

My 5600x3d reached temps of 84c well playing far cry 5 at 1080p at 64 percent usage, this was after dropping it from 1440p. It was only at 84c for a moment, however I was wonder if this was ok and normal for the cpu, im cooling it with a ag400, and the guys at microcenter said it would be ok.

Operating a Ryzen 5 5600X at 84°C for a brief moment during gaming is generally acceptable, especially with a lower usage percentage. However, aiming for temperatures under 80°C during heavy loads for longer periods is recommended. Microcenter's advice and the AG400 cooler's efficiency are positive factors. Proper case ventilation, thermal paste application, and CPU cooler mounting are crucial for effective heat management. Trusted monitoring software helps track temperatures, while room temperature can influence heat levels. Considering professional evaluation and the brief spike, your CPU is likely safe. Regular temperature monitoring and seeking expert opinions for peace of mind are prudent measures.

Well I monitored it for a few hours and it seemed to stay around 78-82c on 75-99 percent usage well I was playing farcry 5 on 1080p high setting, this was after adjusting my fan curve. I have a hefty bottleneck, as I can only upgrade one part at a time, could that be contributing to usage spikes and temp spikes?

84 degrees is too high for gaming, it must be around 50, may be 600 for your cpu, you need to undervolt your cpu, if you want to prolong its lifespan

The Max operating temps is 90c. Its well within specs. Try running Cinebench and see where it pegs. If it maxes out and throttles you can do a few things. Lower the power curve to the point where it stays stable, reseat your cooler to see if that is an issue, or get a better cooler.

Resetting that tiny cooler wont do much good. it needs a larger cooler with 2 fans.

I have two 5600X3D systems one is a older NZXT H2 Case (not known for great cooling but great sound) the other in a fractal north mesh case.

Both use a Deep Cool AK620 and both game under 70c, normally 60c same with the 4070.   And I have no exit fan on the Fractal case just the stock input fans + the two cpu fans and 4070FE exit fan. (power supply exits in separate area not in the main case)

Doom 3 Eternal hits the cpus pretty hard in 1080P ultra 350+ fps.   Temps hit 73c once for a few seconds mostly its at 63c.  I can't get them over 78c even on cinbench

MicroCenter tried to talk my into that AG400 cooler glad I did not get it.  It would work but you will run hotter and more likely to throttle.

I think they do not realize the 5600X3D has that large vcache that runs hotter than a 5600x so they recommend based on a different cpu.

It needs the AK620 for sure, the AG400 only has 1 fan and smaller fin area.   I love micro center but they fail on the cooler recommendation on the 5800x3d and 5600x3d.

This is a well known issue with Far cry 5 if you have a x3d CPU. The easiest fix ive found is to open control panel > Power options > edit plan settings > change advanced power settings > processor power management > and change both the minimum (optional if its already under 100%) and maximum processor state from 100% to 99%. I've never looked too far into why it happens only with x3d cpu's but this fix should drop your temps by alot. i have had it happen both on my old 5800x3d and current 7800x3d. After using this fix my temps are usually around 60-65C before it would instantly shoot up to 90C as soon as i launched the game even if you alt tab out or minimize the game the temps wont go down until you exit out completely never seen any other game do something like this but hopefully this helps with your 5600x3d as well.
