Wraith Stealth Cooler with 2700X Processor

I have a HP EliteDesk 705 G4 MT (minitower) that came with a 2400G processor with is not compatible with Windows 11. The only upgrade that is compatible is the 2700X which came with a Prism cooler. The mother board is supposed to support the 2400G, but the cooler is so tall that it won't clear the drive carrier. I know the Wraith Stealth cooler that came with the 2400G has a TDP of 65 watts and the 2700X has a TDP of 105 watts, but if I want to go to Windows 11 this seems to be the only solution without replacing a relatively new computer. The applications are browsing the web and MS office applications, no gaming and I have no intention of over clocking the CPU.

Does anyone have any solution to my problem? I'm hoping the Stealth cooler will work even though its not ideal.

Hi, I'm sorry but I wouldn't advise you to run a 2700X on a Wraith Stealth.

There are BIG differences between the stealth and prism, the heat pipes is one.

If you headroom is tight, you can try this one but even Noctua won't advise it for a 2700X

The other way is to limit the 2700X ability to Boost and undervolt.

OR!
Go nuts and get a 120mm AIO

I did find information that if you change parts you will need to buy new windows key. I do not know details or maybe it will only happen if you have oem windows key.

His pc maybe have oem windows key activated.

you should find your pc specs and name all parts and provide more information.

I assume your pc use integrated gpu that is part of 2400g and if you install 2700x you will have no gpu and you will need to buy gpu in order to have image on your monitor and if you even do that maybe you will need new psu.

do you really need windows 11? can you explain why?

I still did not try windows 11.

Good point with the gpu, i believe that model can only take low profile gpu at most.

I will not be supprised if his power supply is less than 500w and maybe his psu do not even have 8pin pci-e cable for gpu and maybe there is sticker on his pc and he will void warranty if he opens it.

I think there is no need to spend a bunch of money on this system just to have it run Windows 11.

As Albert Einstein said, "I could have done so much more with a Big Al's Computer!".

The only reason that I want to go to Windows 11 is because eventually MS will force the issue when support ends for Windows 10. I know that is a few years away, but I would like to keep this computer for an extended time.

I know that I could slow the processor and/or reduce the voltages by using overclocking software utility or using the power saving settings in Windows. Having to add an external GPU card will increase the cost to the point where it probably makes more sense to get rid of the computer when Win 10 support ends. I just feel a little bit cheated that MS doesn't support a relatively new computer for the newest OS. I guess I made a mistake by buying it at the wrong part of the MS OS update cycle.

Thanks for the suggestions.

My computer blocks installation of AMDs Ryzen Master utility.

Windows 11, in not so many words, was Microsoft playing dodge ball with us, plain and simple.

But not even the all mighty 2700X will save you from obsolescence, that prebuilt is made for office deployments not for down the line upgrades.

Save your money and get a R7 7700 later on with a A620 board plus the Prism Cooler.

Easy!! ; - )
