USB support Ryzen Processors for use on X570 motherboard

I have an ASUS GA15DH - 3700x CPU. The MB is troublesome. I am looking at replacing it with a X570 board. I notice that these boards support usb from the processor but I cannot find a list of which CPUs support what levels of USB. I get bits here and there by looking at individual processor specs.

Some motherboards says they will, provide, from the processor,  usb 3.2 gen 2 (10Gbps) eg MSI x570S tomahawk wifi max  (10Mbps) others say 3.2 gen 2x2 (20 Gbps). Then I get left wondering what the tomahawk will do if I give it a processor that supports USB3.2x2.

For starters, can anyone point me to a table that shows me USB support for the processors?

Yes, I can help you with that. Here is a table that shows the USB support for some popular processors:

Processor USB Support

AMD Ryzen 7 3700XUSB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbps)
AMD Ryzen 9 3900XUSB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbps)
AMD Ryzen 9 5900XUSB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbps)
AMD Ryzen 9 5950XUSB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbps)
AMD Ryzen 7 5800XUSB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbps)
AMD Ryzen 5 5600XUSB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbps)
AMD Ryzen 5 3600XUSB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbps)
AMD Ryzen 5 5600GUSB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbps)
AMD Ryzen 7 5700GUSB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbps)
AMD Ryzen 9 5950XUSB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbps)
AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3960XUSB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbps)
AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3970XUSB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbps)
AMD Ryzen Threadripper 3990XUSB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbps)

Please note that the USB support also depends on the motherboard that you use with the processor. So, if you use a processor that supports USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 (20 Gbps), but your motherboard only supports USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10 Gbps), you will only get the maximum speed supported by your motherboard.

I hope this helps!

Thanks Billy,

I could not find any reference to the 3700 X having USB at all. The  'detailed' AMD specs at https://www.amd.com/en/product/8446 don't show it. I'm getting a MAG x570S tomahawk wifi max board. I thought my 3700x has no USB from the processor and I don't really need more speed. I was looking at getting a 5700x as they are are only 300 AUD, The B450 ASUS board that came in  the GA15DH and/or Armory crate  are/is crap. The board drops USB connections then later comes a stream of USB connect sounds. This problem was long resolved by AMD but it this MB and ASUS lack of support or care is driving me crazy. I have the latest bios on this system and have done all of the "don't power down USB devices" original work arounds.

Armory crate doesn't allow custom curves and does not allow the cooler fan to get to a high enough rpm to actually manage the CPU temp. So that is gone and I am relying on bios curves for that. Similarly, the GPU that came with this is a 2060 super with one fan that can wind up to 4000 rpm but the armoury crate fertilizer would leave the fan running relatively slow and the GPU would be running at 80+C.

GPU tweak - fine but both armoury crate and GPU tweak were fighting over fan control. What a cluster ....

I'll go get the MB and get this moved around. Probably look at a larger NVME drive at the same time.

Needless to say, I have no confidence in ASUS system management software or their support that I have approached on all the shortcomings that I have found.

MSI support was dodgy too when I asked what would happen if I put a cpu in there that could do usb 3.2 gen 2x2 (20 Gbps) in the x570s tomahawk max. They came back with - it may work, it may not work at all, or it may not work at CPU rated speed. i.e all possible choices. Very reminiscent of an old MS joke - where am I - you are in a helicopter.

I know some of the Gigabyte boards had 20Mbps and I thought I found a ryzen that had it but I can't find the latter again? - it could be faulty memory.

Thanks again Billy
