Troubleshooting Ryzen 5 5600

Hello,

I recently purchased a new build, here are my specs:

RTX 3060

Ryzen 5 5600

EVGA 850W

AsRock B550M Pro4

Corsair Vengeance 16gb 3600

When I turn on the computer, two red lights showing CPU and DRAM stay lit, and the computer won’t POST. I have tried everything, resetting CMOS, taking out cords, unplugging hardware, reseating RAM, and nothing will change. My old build had a 2600, which unfortunately doesn’t support the B550. What should I do from here? Should I send back the CPU and try another one? Please help.

Do you have a Ryzen 5 5600X or Ryzen 5 5600G?

Do you have the correct BIOS Version installed for your 5600X/G CPU: ? https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/B550M%20Pro4/#BIOS

1- R5-5600X you will need BIOS Version P1.20 or newer

2-R6-5600G you will need BIOS version P1.80 or newer

If you do need to update the BIOS it is very important that you read the Yellow Highlighted instruction BEFORE updating the BIOS.

Is your RAM Memory listed on the ASRock Support Motherboard QVL List for the 5000 series processors?

1- 5600X - Vemeer: https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/B550M%20Pro4/#MemoryVM

2-5600G - Cezanne: https://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/B550M%20Pro4/#MemoryCEZ

If your RAM Part Number is not listed then go to your RAM's Manufacturer's Support and see if it is listed there for your Motherboard.

With both CPU and DRAM Trouble LED light seems to indicate a RAM incompatibility issue. If you remove all the RAM from your Motherboard and power on the PC and the CPU Trouble LED light goes on and then Off and the DRAM LED lights up that does indicate a RAM problem since your CPU passed the BIOS test on POST.

Hi,

I own the Ryzen 5 5600, which requires P2.30 update for my mobo. I have determined that the motherboard is updated, and that isn’t the issue. However, I looked on the site that you provided and realized that my Corsair 16GB 3600 MHz RAM sticks are not compatible with the core. Can you confirm this? Also, does this mean I just have to buy a version listed on the site and it should solve my problem? Thanks so much for your help so far!

you are correct, I missed seeing the "5600" and you do need BIOS Version P2.30.

As for the RAM you can check at Corsair Website: https://www.corsair.com/us/en/Categories/Products/Memory/c/Cor_Products_Memory?type=motherboard

I inputted at the above link to find compatible RAM for your ASRock Motherboard but there wasn't any listed:

If the ASRock QVL List is very out-dated then check to see which RAM Manufacturers are listed in the QVL List and then go the RAM Manufacturer's website to see which RAM is compatible with your Motherboard or Processor.

Also AMD has it own RAM Compatibility Chart for the 3000 - 5000 Series CPUs you can check with: https://www.amd.com/en/products/ryzen-compatible-memory-ryzen-3000-to-5000-series-processor

I’ve looked through the motherboard compatibility, and the model numbers don’t even match up with some of the kits. None of them are compatible with the AMD compatibility list, so I’m assuming it is outdated.

My current RAM sticks say they are supporting Intel, which I didn’t know that they could be exclusive, but that’s my fault.

Should I order new sticks that are designed for AMD and are listed on the mobo site even though the model numbers don’t match up? Also, I started the computer without RAM and the CPU light didn’t turn off. What am I doing wrong?

I have made some progress. I plugged in different RAM sticks and the CPU and DRAM lights are off. The VGA and BOOT lights are now on. The system POSTs and it switches between POSTing and a message that reads,

New CPU installed. fTPM/PSP NV corrupted or fTPM/PSP NV structure changed.

Press Y to reset fTPM. If you have Bitlocker or encryption enabled, the system will not boot without a recovery key.

Press N to keep previous fTPM record and continue system boot. fTPM will NOT enable in new CPU, you can swap back to the old CPU to recover TPM related keys and data”

Ive been pressing N in order to get the POST loop, but I haven’t tried Y. I’m worried about the BitLocker.

Someone will need to advise you concerning fTMP and BItlocker.

austindsor, at this time you do no have the justification to RMA the processor.  How many sticks of memory do you have? Are they the same as were in the 2600 system? Are they on the QVL list for the 5600? Try one stick (if you have more than one) at a time in different slots. Have you checked your MB vendor for 5600 being supported at the BIOS level? Thanks and enjoy, John.
