Hello everyone.
A seller on a local marketplace was selling the 7800X3D processor at a low price. I decided to purchase it. Some buyers have already received their processors and attached photos. My order is still on the way.
I have huge suspicions about whether this is a counterfeit. As you can see, the capacitors are missing in the upper half of the processor. However, according to one review, it is still working, which is unlikely for a dummy (though it could be a fake review). The seller claims that the capacitors may be missing because the processor is from a new revision. All of this is extremely suspicious.
Could you please advise if this is a counterfeit?
I believe the best way is to open a AMD SUPPORT TICKET and show them your photos. If you already purchased the processor than post the new processor's Serial Number when you open the AMD Support ticket. That would immediately show if it is fake or not: https://www.amd.com/en/forms/contact-us/support.html
Another User also purchased a latest AMD Processor similar to yours from Ebay. With no circuitry showing on the sides. Later on though he was able to verify that it was genuine but a older version.
Also if the AMD processor doesn't arrive in a official Sealed AMD RETAIL BOX it is not covered by AMD 3 year Warranty and it is probably a OEM/TRAY processor or a fake.
By the Serial Number AMD would know immediately if you have a fake processor or not.
Sorry, but could you please point me to an article that proves that the CPU is genuine but an old version?
Need to ask the User how he was able to verify the processor as being real but older version.
If you believe your processor is a fake send the processor's Serial Number and Model printed on the lid to AMD SUPPORT - WARRANTY . They will be able to verify if your processor is real, fake, or a Used processor.
Here is the previous AMD Thread about the User believing he had a fake processor but wasn't: https://community.amd.com/t5/general-discussions/have-i-got-a-real-amd-cpu/m-p/707733
Are by any chance a acquaintance of MisterJ?
Thank you for letting me know about the article.
The 7800X3D I purchased did not have a capacitor on the top, just like the first poster.
The post I saw on X proved that this model worked fine, but does the same CPU with a different PCB shape really exist?
It's not a "new" version, it's a fake.
The PCB is blue, it should be green. And as you pointed out, it's missing components.
Here's der8auer's video on how to spot a fake.

Thank you so much for sharing the video link, I appreciate you. Now I can spot between fake and real.
