Safe to use this memory and downclock it?

I have 5 7600 and I was looking to go with this for the ram: CMH32GX5M2B6400C36W It's rated for 6400 but I heard the 7000 series can usually only run at 5800 or 6000. Is it good if I just downclock it? the motherboard I was looking to use is a MSI PRO B650-S WIFI. I didn't see this specific ram on the qualified vendors list for AMD. I can't really return the ram now either. Is it fine to still use it?

If it is too late to return it, why ask whether it will work?

Try it at the rated speed. If it doesn't work, try downclocking it. If that doesn't work, then you'll have to eat the cost and buy a different kit.

Ryzen R7 5700X | B550 Gaming X | 2x16GB G.Skill 3600 | Radeon RX 7900XT
Ryzen R7 5700G | B550 Gaming X | 2x8GB G.Skill 4000 | Radeon Vega 8 IGP
Ryzen R5 5600 | B550 Gaming Edge | 4x8GB G.Skill 3600 | Radeon RX 6800XT

Yeah it is too late to return. Do I need to worry about memory timings or stuff like that? And is there a way to know that it's working well or is it fine as long as I'm not crashing?

Run memtest or other memory benchmark to test for stability.

If it won't run at DDR5-6400 using the XMP profile then try leaving XMP enabled but simply lower the speed to DDR5-6000. If that still doesn't work then turn off XMP and run it at SPD speed/timings.

  • if I just set it to 5800 and it launches fine and I get no black screens would it still be fine you think? doesn't seem like it's worth to worry over a little bit of speed. I just want my PC to run fine.
