Ryzen 9 7950x High temp. and shutdown

Hi, I've been experiencing issues with my Ryzen 9 7950X processor for some time now.

Initially, I had very high CPU temperatures even at idle—around 60°C CPU package—and my computer would shut down on its own. I took it to a service center where they replaced the thermal paste. The idle temperatures improved and dropped to about 40°C CPU package, but the problem still occurs under load.

For example, during gaming or data analysis, the CPU temperature quickly reaches 90°C, and shortly after, the computer shuts down. This essentially makes my PC useful only for watching YouTube.

What could be the cause of this problem, and what solutions should I consider?

My build:

  • AMD Ryzen 9 7950X
  • ROG STRIX X670E-E GAMING WIFI
  • ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX 4090
  • NZXT Kraken X73 (3x120mm AIO cooler)

Temperatures is always a hot topic.

For the parts you wrote no issues, but I would check that AIO, try to hear the pump if it's not making strange noises like a weird grinding, inspect the tubing if one is hotter than the other, preferably one should be a lot colder.

Is your case with a front glass? Room temperature? Lots of stuff will impact your final temps.

Try undervolting or curve optimizer. Sometimes can help.

It is impossible that by simply replacing thermal paste temperatures improved by 20°C. There was some other underlying problem with the cooler installation or operation.

As @johnnyenglish states the AIO itself could be suspect. If you are unsure how to troubleshoot, a revisit to the service center may be your best option.
