 My PPT will hover around 80% and shoot to around 107% sometimes. Then it shows it going down to like 3% then goes back to hovering around 80%. I have eco mode turned on too. I'm also running the latest version of my bios. My motherboard is a MSI PRO B650-S WIFI. Is this normal or should I be worried? I'm also not sure if this happens out of eco mode yet.

A comment on a small part of this. Enable Precision Boost Overdrive and then enable Curve Optimizer. This increases performance and reduces power usage - it is basically an efficiency setting. Have a quick google about Curve Optimizer first and then go and have a bit of a play with it.

I wouldn't really need liquid cooling with eco mode on right? My workload in this screenshot was watching a video and streaming it on discord.

Thanks, Trspsr. I am not AMD so I cannot say water cooling is needed or not in ECO mode. The RM screenshot looks like your cooling is OK, but please post a screenshot of RM while running Cinebench R24 Multicore. The high PPT is throttling your processor. I suggest you ask your MB vendor if this is normal, if 88 Watts is a reasonable limit or if this is caused by ECO. Try running with ECO off and post an RM screenshot. John.

The 7900X stock is 170W TDP / 230W PPT.

105W TDP is 142W PPT.

65W TDP is 88W PPT.

Looks like you've selected 65W ECO mode and the PPT limit is functioning as designed.

So it's fine even if it goes past 100% and goes all the way down to 3% randomly? Also it is normal to take that much power with just a few processes open?

You're hitting 100% of an 88W limit on a chip designed to use up to 230W.

It's like buying a Formula 1 race car and putting an 88MPH speed limiter on it.

Yes, the chip will be constantly bouncing off the limiter.

You may want to consider using the 105W ECO mode at a minimum. You'll still lose a little performance, but it's single digit % loss, not double digits like with 65W ECO mode.

Yeah I heard the stock eco mode was worse but I mostly just do gaming and a small amount of blender modeling (just starting to learn it now). I've heard it doesn't affect performance in gaming at all. I just wanted some less heat so I can turn my fans down a bit but I'm not sure if it even helped. I thought about doing the 105w eco mode but I'm a bit freaked out about those tutorials. The tutorials I saw used an Asus MB and their bios uses different measurements for PPT, TDC and EDC. Also I really don't want to get into the whole curve optimizer thing. Should I just run this thing stock?

The Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE is a great air cooler, but it still won't perform as good as liquid cooling, and AMD recommends liquid cooling for best performance on the 7900X.

If you run the processor stock it will boost up to 95°C as designed.

If you don't want that high of temps and fan noise, and don't mind a bit less performance then I would suggest the 105W ECO mode.

I originally did have an Arctic liquid freezer AIO but I returned it because I hated the weird noise it made. Most people said I could use a phantom spirit just fine. I don't think I need the absolute best performance. I don't play intensive games that much. Mostly Dota. The most intensive game I would play would be Fortnite or Deadlock. I can't think of a single time I would be using 100% of my CPU. I honestly should have gotten a different CPU but it's too late for that and I'm kinda stuck with this. Would it be fine if I just do the 105W eco mode and not worry about doing the curve optimizer and testing that? I'm already extremely stressed over this PC build and just want to do something simple without worrying anymore.

The 7900X is a powerful CPU that will do just fine for gaming, and if you're also getting into blender the extra cores will really benefit there. Honestly it's nothing worth stressing over, yes I would suggest using the 105W ECO mode and leave it at that.

sorry one last question. When doing 105w mode what should I set my numbers to? I think the tutorials say this: 

PPT Limit: 142000 (AMD stock 170W recommended settings: 230,000)

TDC Limit: 110,000 (AMD stock 170W recommended settings: 160,000)

EDC Limit: 170,000 (AMD stock 170W recommended settings: 225,000)

But my motherboard seem to use watts instead of milliwatts. 

 So would I set it to 142 PPT, 110 TDC, and 170 EDC?

You shouldn't need to manually set PBO limits when using ECO mode. ECO takes care of that for you.

Just pick the ECO mode TDP rating and it will take care of applying the proper PBO limits to match that setting.

I don't see Those options on my MSI Motherboard. only seems to go to 85.

 Edit: I think I found them in motherboard settings. Does this look right?

Thanks so much! seems to be running fine. Can't really tell if It's actually at those numbers though because Ryzen Master seems to have almost completely stopped working and is  now displaying impossible numbers lol. Not because of the 105w change. It seems to have started when I went from eco 65w to default 

heard about a lot of issues with it so I'm just going to uninstall it. Any easy way to check this in windows? Or some program that doesn't break so much. Thanks for all the help though. You're great!

That's strange. Are you using the latest version? (2.14.0.3205)

Yes it was the latest version. I already uninstalled it though. I made a different post about it and somepne said it's a common issue. Some people also said to just uninstall it because it's better just to use Bios. Wondering if should uninstall the AMD Adrenaline software. Would that clash with MSI center or something like that?
