So basically i just upgraded a few days ago from a ryzen 5 2600 processor to ryzen 7 5800x and have noticed that while playing games (especially Rainbow Six Siege) the cpu runs almost constantly at 91 celsius. I use HWMonitor as the temperature measurement tool and the Package temp is red constantly at 90-91 celsius and also the CCD#0 max peak is around 93.5 celsius. Someone from the AMD said that it should be normal for this zen3-processor under a full load, but is this type of gaming full load? And is it ok for this processor to run at these temperatures while gaming? The games run fantastically getting a lot more fps than before.
Here is my setup listed (I have not overclocked anything):
CPU: Ryzen 7 5800x
Cpu cooler: Deepcool AK400
GPU: PowerColor Radeon RX 5700 XT Red Devil OC
Motherboard: ASRock B450M Pro4
Ssd: Kingston 512GB KC600
M.2 ssd: Kingston A2000 1TB
Psu: SilentiumPC 700W Vero M3 Bronze
Ram: Corsair 32GB (4 x 8GB) Vengeance LPX, DDR4 3200MHz, CL16
Case: Kolink Observatory RGB
Uroslammas, the maximum temperature for your processor is 90C.
"Someone from the AMD said..." Please tell us who. Post a screenshot of Ryzen Master (RM) running Cinebench R24 Multicore. Images of RM only, no HWM... There is no normal temperature. AMD says "Premium air cooler recommended for optimal performance." If you did not install a fresh copy of Windows, please do including formatting your C: disk. John.
Hello, thanks for your reply. Here are a few pics of Ryzen Master running Cinebench R24 multicore stress test. The peak temp it went up to was 90,04 celsius. The someone from the AMD I was referring to I believe was Robert Hallock.
Good to hear you're happy with the performance increase. As you've discovered however the 5800X also runs hotter than your old chip.
Your screenshots of RM running CB Multi look normal, it's running right up against the thermal and power limits, but an all-core workload will do that.
The Deepcool AK400 is an ok cooler, but if you have room in your case and want better cooling you could upgrade to a dual tower air cooler with more heatpipes, or to an AIO liquid cooler.
And if you feel like tweaking some PBO settings, in particular Curve Optimizer, you could likely bring that temp down a little more.
Also may want to check whether you have XMP enabled. RM is showing your memory CL at 22.
Thanks for the answer! I will look into upgrading the cooler somewhere in the future and I’ll check the XMP also. Would you say that the temps up to the 90 celsius is ok also for gaming and doesnt harm the cpu?
That's correct. The purpose of the PBO limits is to allow the processor to boost as high as possible without exceeding a safe temperature or power range.
Thank you so much for the information.
