Microcode error 8701021 random reboots

Hi all,

my computer Ryzen 5 3600 randomly reboots with the microcode error message 8701021. Before a restart I get some screen flickering. The time between flickering and the reboot is not consistent tho.

I'm running Linux with the newest kernel and amd microcode.

Does anyone knows what this error message means or has a similar issue?

Well I'm not a linux user so a lot of the information I found was over my head.

The threads on this issue seem to indicate that the issue is with the CPU's low power states.

Fixes that seemed to work for people  where either disabling PBO or disabling c6 staes.

This tech site this User had a similar error on his Ryzen 3600. Turned out to be a defective CPU: https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/1210116-pc-constantly-reboots-doesnt-make-it-to-os/

This linus Tech site has the same error with a Ryzen 3700x with several tips on how to resolve that error: 206903 – Spontaneous reboots with Ryzen-3700x (Machine Check: 0 Bank 5: bea0000000000108)

You can always open a AMD Service Request (Official AMD Support) - Warranty and see if they believe you should RMA your processor to be checked or replaced from here: https://www.amd.com/en/support/contact-email-form

You have a 3 year Processor in a box Warranty from date of purchase if your purchased the CPU from a Retailer in a official AMD Retail box. AMD Warranty starts when the Retailer's Warranty expires.
