I know this quite common issue but cant to make it work properly. Then I use in machine learning tasks my PC just freezes, moreover the task is mostly GPU tasks and total CPU load in less than 20%.
Possible solution might be setting in Syslinux Configuration:rcu_nocbs=0-15
because the BIOS didn't have the "Typical Current Idle" Option.
1)
Anyway added to the grub options next things:
idle=nomwait
rcu_nocbs=0-15
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="iommu=soft"
Nothing changed.
2) Deleted files in .cache and tmp - nothing changed

What can I do, update linux kernel, update BIOS, which is gigabyte and april 2018 version

That is way to old kernel. Is not even the 4.14 LTS which has some backports..
Basically you'll need and 4.15++ best is to use 4.17..
This is not an amd or linux question. This is a known weakness of Mint in combination with Cinnamon and Nvidia.
Look here: https://www.reddit.com/r/linuxmint/comments/5pg2hf/cinnamon_crashes_with_nvidia_driver_with_181/
The best thing to ask in the Mint Forum: https://forums.linuxmint.com/index.php

Kernel thats the problem, thank you. Found easy way to update kernel https://itsfoss.com/upgrade-linux-kernel-ubuntu/
I've had Ryzen CPU 5-1600 and 7-1700 on Gigabyte AB350N-ITX motherboard. The freeze issue I used to resolve raising a bit the CPU volts from 1.20 to 1.25 or to a max of 1.35.
Some people write to raise also CPU VCORE from 1.00 to 1.10.
Around there's lot of solutions altering C-State and so on, but it's related to power supply.
Or you change many psu till find the good and stable one, or tweak a bit with voltage CPU and/or VCore. It's important to prevent that CPU goes to a state where voltage is so low that a slightly unstable PSU is not able to achieve.
I've to say that upgrading to 7-1700 and new 7-3700X didn't freeze after last BIOS (>=F40) updates of that motherboard.
But installing back 5-1600 to do a small server with the same board resulted again in frequent freezes during few hours of idling. Impossible to make a server.
I resolved with that old trick to raise a bit voltage.
The Power Supply is always the same a Tacens Anima 400W SFX.
@mechano: Would you please be so kind to describe how you adjusted the voltage?
I got a Acer Swift 315 Laptop which does not get any BIOS updates anymore I tried all max_cstate's between 1 to 6 with no luck. So I believe the theory of cpu/core voltage is too low is the cause for the freeezes...
Hope you can help me out.
Thanks in advance!
kind regards
