I admit I know nothing about computers, but I am starting to try to learn. I watched a video on assembling a custom productivity and gaming PC, and the guy said that the "AMD Ryzen™ 9 7950X3D Gaming Processor is on the new AM5 platform, which they claim to support until 2025". Given that it is now 2025, does anyone know (out of full context) what that means? Thank you!

Must have been an old video, AMD announced support to 2027+ in June 2024.
What it is, basically support for upgrading to newer model processors on the same motherboard.
Historically speaking, AMD's socket types (AM4, AM5, etc.) have been supported through multiple generations of chipsets and processors, unlike Intel where you typically only get 2 generations before you have to replace both motherboard and CPU to upgrade.
AM4 for example first launched in 2016, has had 3 generations of chipsets and 5 generations of Ryzen processors, and are still being sold today.
AM5 has had 2 chipsets and 2 generations of processors so far, with hopefully several more to come, before they introduce a new socket type.
