AMD Processors GTA V Low/Drop FPS at Nights

Hello everybody, we have a problem GTA V.  At daytime I give 80-90 fps average. But game clock at 7PM FPS sudden drop 45. This drop continues up to 6AM. This drop is happening when I'm look at the city side.

My system;

Ryzen 5 2600X (w/ Stock Cooler)

MSI B350M Mortar Arctic

Kingston 2x8 GB 2133Mhz RAM (OC'd 2666 Mhz)

MSI Gaming X RX 480 8G

250 GB Samsun 750 Evo

480GB Sandisk Ultra II

Zalman Z3 Plus MidT Case

Xigmatek Tauro 600W 80+ Bronze PSU

AOC G2460VQ6 Monitor

Windows 10 1803 and games is originial and updated last versions. All programs installed SSD's.

Solutions I've tried;

  • Lowest settings in game
  • Highest settings in game
  • QHD Resolution
  • Switch off Radeon Relieve
  • Set High priority GTA5.exe
  • Clean install Windows 10 versions (1607,1703,1709,1803)
  • Uninstalling MSI Afterburner & Gaming App
  • Close background programs (Discord, Steam, Origin etc.)
  • GPU Power limit +%50
  • Downing GPU core clock at Stock AMD Clock (1303 -> 1266)
  • OC GPU
  • Reinstalling GPU and RAMs
  • Old AMD Drivers
  • Cleaning the case
  • OC RAM frequency at 2400 and 2666Mhz

and nothing changed. Drops still continuing.

Previously I was using i5 6600 and B150 motherboard(other parts are the same). This configration haven't fps drops like that.  In GTAO my friends and me sitting the same car (think above video) average FPS difference 40-50 fps for me, but my friends fps difference 10-15 fps (max) at looking city side.

Weird. I'm not having this problem with 2700X and a RX 580. It might be related to Windows 10 1803, as the April update made gaming performance even worse I heard. I'm still on 1607.

Interesting.

I've tried Windows 10 1607,1703,1709 and 1803 but trouble still continues.

Exact same problem on an X370 1700X System.
Gpu doesn't matter (tried GTX 980, R9 270, RX 580 and Vega 64).

Please fix this or involve Rockstar :-(

Hey!

That's kinda funny since I actually tried all settings at the lowest possible option... but setting just water to normal obviously gives at least 10+ more fps at night and the gpu usage stays much higher. Doesn't fix the entire problem but definitely helps alot.

Thanks m8!

Also ingame Vsync seems to destroy a proper freesync experience... disabled it and capped the FPS at monitors refresh rate via radeon chill... game runs MUCH smoother.

Maybe someone can help with this problem: AMD Vega - Reflection MSAA causing matte cars in GTA 5 ?? - YouTube
I made a post in "Graphics" but it has not been released yet.

Cheers

sometimes lowering water is not gonna help. heaviest experince i've ever seen is looking the cities from long range like looking los santos from vinewood biggest impact is there also sandy shores too i really hated this game

Same problem, on RX 6650XT and Ryzen 5 5600g with 32gb of RAM.

Seems like this did the trick for me, the fps is significantly better now. I had the worst drops looking from docks or from the small hill next to the oil field on East Los Santos looking at the city. Running a 5600 and a 6700XT and i am quite surprised how that's still not enough to max out the game and not dip below 60, especially since we are talking about a nearly 8 year old game (on PC).

I wrote to Rockstar Games support 5 months ago. I sent a lot of documents and evidence. I talked to a lot of Rockstar staff. I was told that this problem would be investigated. But after five months, nothing has changed. Hopefully, new Rockstar games won't have that kind of problem.

I tested it with Ryzen 7 1800X+Radeon RX Vega.

Did not have this problem

The only common ground I see is that everyone with this problems seems to have an MSI motherboard ??? I'm going to figure that out on a friends Gigabyte X470 / R5 2600X rig later.

I'm pretty sure I did not have such extreme drops with my old biostar board. (For that I had lots of other problems with that piece of junk)

Cheers!

Friend of mine has no problems on the following system:

Ryzen 5 2600X @ 4.2GHz
16GB DDR4 3200 CL16
Gigabyte X470 Gaming 7
512GB Samsung 860
GeForce GTX 970
Windows 10 Version 1803

GPU utilization stays up all the time and no abnormal drops between 7pm and 6am (ingame time).

is the game installed on ssd?

Yes on both systems.

what about u? i didnt installed it on ssd cuz its not worth it

I saw massive improvements (loading times) after installing it on SSD...

Have updated my chipset drivers to latest version, no improvement.
Reset BIOS settings (optimized defaults - no OC), no improvement.
Disabled HPET in BIOS, no improvement.

I can't figure out what causes the drop in GPU utilization.

I chatted with the AMD tech support for a while and different guys tried to figure out what's the problem. No solution found.

I still have no idea what's the problem. For now I turned off MSAA, set water detail and particle detail to normal to slightly decrease the fps drops. It's still noticeable but I can't find another solution. I may switch to zen 2 and an X570 soon... maybe that will fix it.

Hello,

has anyone found a solution to this? I am facing the exact same problem.

Im facing the same problem tried to talk with the rockstar support but they didnt really "knew " or could help . Im wondering if someone actually fixed it or is just a connectivity or something related with the processor (in Gta)
Im using a ryzen 7 2700 , i have 120 fps in the vynewood hill while looking at the city, when the hours in game reach 19:00 pm and the lights turn on drops to 50/60

Just for a Heads Up. This Bug still affects the 5900x and the 5800x3d.

I have the same on rx 6700, it's not because of the amd processor, it's because of the amd video card, because nvidia didn't have this  https://youtu.be/9IrkEZYxkX8

I am also having this issue on asus mobo 5950x 6900xt 4266 cl17. Friend has asrock mobo 5600x 6600xt 3200 cl14 and has issue as well. Other friend has had 1600x and 5600x with rx580 then 3060ti with no issues at night. It is a very weird glitch. 99% sure it has to do with the processor, but it does not happen on all ryzen systems. disabling smt does not help in my testing. decreasing water quality seems to not make it as bad but that could just be from the reduced setting quality. i dont know how this issue can be fixed if we dont even know what system could reproduce it

when i play with all very high settings Ill just be driving or flying around then night hits and my fps tanks from 150+ to 60-80 when i turn and look towards the city at night.

hopefully we can revive this topic and someone from AMD can look into it some more.

I contacted rockstar many times

There is a mod which changes some lods of the night lights and it totally fixes this issue sadly online is not possible with this mod. With my 5900x/5800x3d paired with a 6900xt

When i find some time i want to try this Bug with my girlfriends 1060 6gb

Soooooo. It's not the CPU. At least not alone.

I put my 5900x into my Girlfriends PC with a 1060 6gb and there is absolutely no framedrop at night, which is funny because she gets more FPS with her 1060 then me with my 6900xt at night.
