My acer an515-42 ryzen 2500u cpu is hard locked to 1.6 ghz in battery mode, on AC power just runs fine.
in battery mode this renders the notebook to a useless lagging pile of.... So please HELP!!! Acer support igoring me for 1 year, i written dozens of support tickets and no answer.
With original bios 1.06 it was okay with high clock speeds on battery, but after bios update everything is wrong.
I cant downgrade bios, because 1.08 and newer bios is only avalible at support page.
As this issue was caused by a BIOS update issued by Acer, there's nothing AMD or any of us can tell you except find a way to force flash back, perhaps by asking in the Acer forums for a copy of that BIOS.
If you read again with paying actual attention, then you see that i actually tried to make contact dozen times in the last year. From acer zero answer, total ignorance.
Amd should take responsibility for their own cpus. The base clock is 2ghz plus turbo. Acer abusing clock speeds. As the 2018 driver scandal was solved by amd taking the situation in his own hands, and providing proper ryzen mobile driver updates since 2019 february.
Proof of my point is here:
AMD finally delivers drivers that will boost Ryzen Mobile laptops | Engadget
The cpu is made by amd, and should be working as intented, not hard locked to 1.6 ghz.
This is a disgrace.
An important amd represantitve should investigate this, and take action!
I dont care about excuses, i care about solutions!
Which is exactly why I said ask in the Acer forums, which, like here, is user to user, and you may find a copy of the BIOS you seek.
And again, AMD has nothing to do with the final BIOS files which are released by manufacturers, which are custom tailored to a specific motherboard by the manufacturer.
there is an easy fix for that
1. install AMD Chipset Drivers WITH AMD Powerplan
2. reboot
3. enable "AMD Ryzen Balanced"-Powerplan
APU will now boost to max clocks that TDP allows
ps if you disable your dGPU in battery mode and use ryzenadj to lift your APU to 45W you get pretty good gaming results (better than RX560X in lowest power state that is forced when on battery) // DONT go to 45W when using dGPU (otherwise it will throttle a lot and maybe overheat) // with dGPU i use 20-25W // ps Acer Nitro 5 AN515-42 has maybe the best cooling solution of any Ryzen 5 2500U Laptops
I see you NOT understand the problem, its impossible to change battery mode cpu speeds, because its hard locked via bios.
About the tdp limit, you just said plain nonsense mate sorry...
i have THE SAME Laptop
AN515-42-R3VU
AMD Ryzen 5 Mobile 2500U @ 3492.92 MHz - CPU-Z VALIDATOR here with 45W TDP
EDIT2:
not working with BIOS 1.16 - i try again with 1.13
EDIT3:
you need "Helles Ryzen Test" from Helle53
Ryzen Master for mobile Ryzen! (Modify TDP/thermals/Pstates, links inside!) : Amd (search for "Helle53")
there you can go up to 2800MHz and then it will boost to this frequenzy - afaik it is fixed there most of the time until out of tdp
That method is absolutely not working
for me it is working.
but i am working on a custom bios for my Acer Nitro 5 - this will resolve the 75°C thermal-max and allow CPU to boost max on battery - but its lots of work
benman2785 , u got the custom bios for this laptop?
Would be much appreciated if u send it.
Thanks dude
hey - its still in the works
check progress in win-raid forum (look for "[Request] Acer Nitro 5 (AN515-42)")
