Hello All,
I recently upgraded to a 5700X3d and started getting serious stuttering issues just on the normal desktop and my core frequency I noticed would drop to 14mhz. Yes 14, not 1400.
After some googling I went with a re-install of Windows but am still having the issues.
I also noticed that I do not see an option to install 3D V-cache optimization on the chipset driver install.
I had initially been testing this CPU on a Linux install where it seemed to work fine, but after moving it to my primary computer it does not perform well at all.
Here's what I've done so far:
1.Used briefly in Linux, worked fine.
2. Moved to Main desktop, encountered stuttering and slow speeds
3. Used Revo to uninstall drivers, reinstalled chipset drivers.
4. Fresh Install of Windows
5. Re-install chipset again.
I'm really at a loss and dont know what to do from here....

hallc14, nothing wrong with 14 MHz. Sometimes it drops all the way to SLEEP. Get your AMD drivers here. What OS are you running? What are your performance complaints? Have you run Cinebench R24? John.
Hi John I'm running the latest version of Windows 10 Pro 22H2.
The windows 10 driver download is what i've been suing.
The performance is that occasionally I get extreme stuttering and everything becomes slow to use and even programs like web browsers can take minutes to launch.
It is intermittent but will happen every minute or two at least. On the fresh install it seemed to run okay for maybe 30 minutes or so while Windows updated. I was able to run R24 and got a score of 820 in multi-thread test.
I also just swapped my 5700g back in and everything performs normal. No lagging or stuttering and everything is snappy as expected.
hallc14, as I said above get your AMD drivers from here. Do NOT get your AMD drivers from MS or your MB vendor. These are almost always down level. I strongly recommend you stop swapping components. It just makes it impossible to debug and exposes you to damaging your machine. Are you using the iGPU or a Video card? Have you made any changes in BIOS, Ryzen Master or AMD video software? Do a Clear CMOS and make sure to be running your 5700X3D. John.
Hi John, I always do a clear CMOS whenever i move CPUs around on my systems.
I only downloaded Chipset from AMD website. I'm using a 4070Super and all my displays are plugged into it and not the mother board. I was also having the issue on a single display and with all peripherals removed.
Since it had worked fine in the Linux system on the ROG Strix B550-f board before I moved it to my x570 to upgrade my 5700g. I had put it back in the B500-f so I could use my 5700g on my main system (x570) since I needed to use it yesterday.
This morning I tested a fresh windows 10 and windows 11 installs on the 5700x3D in the B550-f board. Everything worked fine on 11, but I had the same stuttering issues on Windows 10 as I did when the CPU was on my x570 Pro system. It was even running fine on 11 before I installed the Chipset drivers, and on 11 they did detect the "Optimize for 3D-V Cache" option.
As I have no plans to use windows 11 I am going to leave my 5700x3D in the B550 system and just stick with the Linux SSD install I had as the CPU seems to run just fine there.
It is a shame the CPU does not seem to function on Windows 10, as was the intent to use this CPU on that system. I will just keep it as a Linux Gaming platform CPU if Windows 10 is not as supported as the Windows 11 seems to be by your chipset drivers.
In summary the CPU ran poorly with stuttering on windows 10 fresh installs on two different mother boards. But ran just fine in windows 11 on the B550-f. (I'm not gnna waste time putting it back into the x570 and test 11 there as well but I assume it would have worked) Dualboot into Linux on the x570 worked fine, and it currently runs fine with Arch Linux on my B550-f.
Thank you for your help, cheers.
hallc14, if it works for you, enjoy. I have seen no evidence of problems with the processor. In general a Clear CMOS is not enough after changing processors. You need an install of a fresh copy of Windows along with formatting of the C: disk. If you would like sometime in the future to resolve your problem, please post again. John.
