Windows 10 x64 Miracast support by AMD Graphic Cards and Drivers ?

Is there a list of AMD Graphic cards and drivers that support Miracast in Windows 10 ?

I have a Dell XPS 8700 32G Ram and 512G SSD, with an AMD Radeon R9 270.

Miracast works fine with driver 22.19.172.269 Dated 6/27/2017, but it stops working if I try to update to any of the newer drivers and software supplied by AMD.

I see many questions about AMD Miracast support where people are complaining for the lack of support, but there is never a clear answer or a solution.

Is there an official AMD list of the hardware and software/drivers that support Miracast with Windows 10 ?

In my case any time I try to update the software/driver on the Radeon R9 270 and I try to connect to a wireless display (Samsung smart TV series 6 40) it attempts the connection and disconnects right away. When I revert the driver to 22.19.172.269 the Miracast connection works fine again. Last I tried was driver 25.20.14011.1003 dated 11/7/2018.

I have the latest Win 10 x64 Pro v1809, but the same issue occurs with previous versions of windows 10.

Does anybody have a clue about Miracast support with the AMD Graphic cards ?

miracast is handled mostly by windows and the network card along with the graphics

so problems can lie with windows or the driver

Hi Hardcoregames,

Given that it works perfectly with the older driver  on the AMD Radeon R9 270 driver  22.19.172.269 Dated 6/27/2017 and it fails solid with any newer AMD graphic drivers downloaded from the AMD support site,  it clearly points to a bug in the AMD drivers.

Does AMD even test the Miracast functionality when they release a new Graphic driver ?

I also did an Amdcleanup uninstall of the old AMD software and driver and tried the latest software and driver WHQL Radeon Adrenalin 18.11.2 with R9 270 driver 25.20.14011.5005 dated 11/16/2018, this again fails and disconnects the wireless display right away.

After reinstalling the old software and driver everything works again, the wireless display connects without any issue.

I guess I will have to stick to the old Radeon software  17.7 and driver 22.19.172.269 and prevent any update of the AMD graphic stuff until they release one that works with Miracast.

because miracast uses Wi-Fi its not so useful with LAN using the same area

this is why it has been deprecated

hardcoregames,

Who says it is not useful or deprecated ?

It is perfectly fine when it works. Miracast was designed for Wi-Fi so that I don't have to put a cable from the PC to the damn TV that can be at the other end of the room.

There is no reason for AMD to drop the support for Miracast in the latest Graphics drivers.

I just think AMD support sucks, they don't want to test the newer drivers properly.

I guess I will avoid AMD when I buy my next PC.

Miracast uses direct pier to pier wi-fi connection to the wireless display, you don't even need to be connected to a LAN.

My HP Stream 7 has miracast which it was designed for, but it has an Intel chipset.

Never worked very well which is why marketing literature has abandoned it

That sounds silly, your HP machine has a problem.

I have 4 other different PC's and Laptops that work great with Miracast, including the latest Lenovo yoga 920. All running Windows 10 x64 version 1809. I can connect to  Samsung Smart TVs or to a Roku streamer without any problem.

Two machines have Intel graphics and 2 desktops have AMD.

Intel HD Graphics 4000 with driver 10.18.10.5059, dated 8/6/2018

Intel UHD Graphics 620 with driver 25.20.100.6373 dated 10/31/2018

My desktops are Dell XPS 8700 with an AMD R9 270, they work fine too with Miracast if I stick to the old driver 22.19.172.269 dated 6/27/2017 .

Wireless Display Supported: Yes (Graphics Driver: Yes, Wi-Fi Driver: Yes)

They stop working  when I update the AMD driver with anything newer made for the Radeon R9 270.

AMD just screwed up the drivers and they should fix them if they want to keep selling Graphic cards in the latest computers.

They sure lost me as a customer.
