Video Tdr Failure RX 5700 (Bluescreen)

  • Driver version installed
    • Adrenalin 2020 Edition 20.2.2

    •  1920x1080 @60Hz HDMI 
    •  Only one monitor
  • Motherboard + Bios Revision
    • ASUS PRIME X470 - Pro -  Bios Version Version 5406 (Last version)
  • CPU/APU
    • AMD Ryzen 5 3600x, Cache 32MB, 3.8GHz (4.4GHz Max Turbo)
  • Power Supply Unit  Make, Model & Wattage
    • Cooler Master B500 ver.2, 500W
  • RAM
    • 2x8GB - Kingston HyperX Fury, 2133MHz, DDR4, - HX421C14FB2/8

 

Describe your issue:

  • Crashes, black screen, blue screen (video tdr failure).
  • Problems appears 10 sec. after i logged myself in, it doesn´t come up when i press alt+strg+entf and switch to an other user and wait a few seconds and log myself in again
  • and it appears when i want to watch videos 
  • All updated drivers and normal temperatures.
  • BIOS updated.
  • Clean installation of windows 10.
  • Windows 10 installed on the SSD Samsung 850 EVO 256GB
  • Windows Memory Diagnostic without errors, everything is ok.
  • sfc /scannow without errors, everything is ok.

I was about to give up with a Sphire Nitro+ 5700 XT. Random reboots when playing, using windows etc. Tried all possible drivers, tricks, windows hacks. Nothing.

Then, I found a post about undervolting the card, I was suspecting a PSU problem, but having a 750 PSU when the recomended setting is 600W, I didn't want to believe. I tested the undervolting and the card started to work better, to the point I was able to play with not crashes. I ended up replacing my 750W bronze PSU for a 850W gold rated PSU. Clean windows install, latest drivers, everything worked as it is supposed to.

Hope this help someone else.
