vega64 adrenlin load crashes windows

vega 64 video card and adrenalin crashes windows.

Brand new system build.

AMD 2700x Cpu

Gskill 3200 memory

gigabyte Aorus 470 utlra gaming

corsair HXI1000 power supply

After build everything loaded without a hitch, platform was stable using all the low end settings.

Then the video load of the latest adrenalin crashed the system. Crashed in such a way that i could not use system recover to get back to base install. Tried 19.5 same crash and results.

system been running fine with out the driver set but using the basic windows driver for video card.

Appears windows can't tell what kind of video card it has.

Any ideas

I have the same GPU / CPU as you and I've been having the same issue for almost a week.

I have a Ryzen 7 2700x & the RX VEGA 64 on a Fatal1ty B450 Gaming K4 motherboard.

My computer randomly had an atikmdag error one day and I had to re-install windows from a USB because the system couldn't boot or restore properly.

Afterwards I re-installed Win10 and updated everything, then installed the latest chipsets and drivers for my CPU / GPU

The chipsets installed fine but no matter what order or fashion I download any recent versions of the graphics driver (AMD Adrenalin), my computer always ends up freezing or hanging either during or after the install.

I've cleaned everything with DDU while in safe mode, then restart and re-installed everything but it still doesn't work.

I've re-installed Win10 on two separate drivers and both have the same exact issue.

I've updated the BIOS and even changed certain settings in the BIOS. I thought I was on to something, but no matter what settings I change it always ends up freezing because of some issue I can't figure out.

I found a driver that appears to be working at this time. I have not stressed the card and driver yet to see if it will fault.

but at least windows is staying up and stable so far.

The driver I got from Gigabyte's web sight. Its AMD's driver 17.12.2

I hope this helps you. I also have a ticket into AMD to let them know about the issue with the current 2 drives they have on their web sight.

Hopefully they will come up with a solution soon.

Thanks for the advice, I'll download those drivers right now to see if I have the same luck.

Did you install the drivers regularly, or did you use windows updater through Device Manager to install them?
