Hello, I just upgraded from my old GTX 1650 to an amd RX 6600, which is supposed to be quite a big upgrade. However when I tested it on , for example, WH40K roguetrader or other games, I didn't notice any improvement in performance ( 40 FPS and such).
Computer Specs :
- CPU : i5-7400.
- SSD : Crucial 500 Gb.
- GPU : RX 6600
- PSU : 550 W cooler master bronze
- RAM : 2*16 GB 2400 MHz.
- Motherboard : G11CD - K
I know that my CPU (and motherboard) is quite old, so could maybe be a cpu bottleneck but while playing Roguetrader , cpu was at 75%, not 100% or close enough. So i'm really wandering, did i mess up when I installed the GPU or the driver ? Are there modification that I need to do with an AMD card ?
Thanks in advance for the help.
I'm pretty sure it is due to a bottleneck. Your RAM and CPU are outdated. The best way to check is to pop up the system status for the GPU and see how much power it is drawing. If it is drawing e.g. 20W while it can draw 138W (max for your card), your graphics card is simply waiting for the rest of the system to catch up.
Very likely that your GTX 1650 wasn't used at full power as well due to the old system.
Ok thanks for the quick response.
To check power draw I used AMD adrenaline software in game overlay. In game, I have 100 W usage and on desktop 20 W. I don't know if it's good or bad, but either way i'll try looking for new cpu/ram/motherboard to replace the old config.
make sure to check cpu usage as well. if your cpu is constantly hitting 80~100 due to gaming, then it is 100% bottleneck. I would recommend amd 7600x + budget b650 with 16gb ram ddr5. would be around 400~450 euros if you can find a good price for it.
best would be 7800x3d + high end B650 with 32gb 30cl 6000mhz, but the prices go up to 700 euro ish.
Hi there,
Its not just CPU bottleneck, its everything bottleneck.
PCI gen 3 instead of 4, ram not able to keep up and CPU with a severe bottleneck not mentioning that you can't even take advantage of SAM.
Still, you should be getting some improvement. Make sure you use DDU to get rid of NVIDIA drivers and then install adrenalin again.
Then use it as it is and save money for an upgrade. If budget is low a 5700X could go well with that 6600 or go for future support with AM5 and a 7600X
Good luck
