I am running the above combo on a MSI B550 Unify-X board and no matter what I set in the BIOS the system never reports or uses PCIe 4.0 connection speed. Even after a complete CMOS reset and a fresh boot the system never runs at advertised speeds.
System Specs:
MSI B550 Unify-X (AGESA 1.2.0.3a - BIOS A.32)
PCIe_1: RX 6800 XT @x16 3.0 (no riser)
M.2_1: WD SN850 @ x4 4.0 (works flawlessly)
M.2_4: ADATA 8200 Pro @ x4 3.0 (as expected)
PSU: Seasonic Prime Ultra 750W
Troubleshooting steps so far:
- reseated the CPU and checked for bent pins
- reseated the GPU 4 times
- placed the top SSD (CPU lanes) in a different slot
- changed BIOS settings, like Global-C-states and tried to force PCIe gen 4 on the first PCIe x16 slot
In essence, nothing works, the GPU is a brand new AMD reference model. I do not believe the GPU to be the problem, but one can never be sure....
Does your mobo bios system settings device info show pcie x16 @ 16 x 4.0.
Check your pcie x16 slot config is 4.0, not the separate pcie slot config option (mines on auto for that one)
It is. The seperate option is for the chipset link. With B550 it is not possible to select more than gen 3 here (ignore the BIOS version, it is A.32 now).
What App. is reporting only 3.0 (under load or idle).
GPU-Z as well as HWInfo64.
Must be some mobo bios setting amiss ?, do you have a pcie x16 bifurcation settings option.
You might want to try posting your issue on the MSI forum.
Thank you. It is no bifurcation setting, since I did not use it. Further, with bifurcation active, there would be no x16 3.0 speed on PCIe_1.
I already posted at the MSI forum. Seems, no one really can help. I am completely out of ideas.
Looks like you need to put in a tech support ticket with msi, see if they can help.
Not used an msi board myself.
