Hi AMD community.
I’m experiencing audio glitches, cracking and dropouts when playing audio in my DAW and interacting with GUI at the same time.
Here are my specs:
Desktop PC
CPU: i9900k
Motherboard: ASUS Z390i STRIX
RAM: Corsair CMK32GX4M2B3000C15 Vengeance LPX 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4 3000 MHz C15 XMP 2.0 High Performance Desktop Memory Kit, Black
Flash Drive: Corsair Force Series™ MP510 480GB M.2 SSD
Graphic Card: Powercolor Red Dragon 5700XT 8GB
PSU: Corsair SF600 80Plus Platinum 600W
OS: Windows 11
Monitor: Samsung LU28R550UQEXXY 28’ UHD (using with 4k resolution)
USB audio interface: Audient iD14
How to reproduce the issue:
1. Launch any Daw
2. Play the audio or instrument inside the DAW
3. Start manipulating GUI of a DAW or plugins inside the DAW.
What I tried already:
1. Using different drivers versions (new, old from 2019)
2. Changing resolution to lower values (from 4k to 1080)
3. Different cables and ports - HDMI, DisplayPort
4. Switching Freesync on and off
5. Updating OS, all drivers, BIOS, firmwares.
6. Using Motherboard’s audio instead of external audio interface.
What helped to kinda resolve an issue:
1. Swapped GPU from 5700xt to RX570 - and there is no issue with RX570, everything’s work fine.
2. Launched MacOs Monterey on the same hardware with 5700xt - everything works fine without any issue.
3. Tried to reproduce an issue without installed driver - everything’s work fine but of course looks awful and laggy.
LatencyMon shows nothing.
Well I can’t make my 5700XT work properly with my current configuration.
I would like to get rid of all these audio crackling, distortion when I’m using my PC and different DAW softwares

I am not a specialist with regard to what you're describing, however, it does sound like coil whine (the "technical jargon").
I read a few threads on different forums, and this is what I found:
Your power outlet could be the culprit, even though the original GPU is just fine, a new one could cause the issue. Someone suggested to try and pulling power to your monitors from a different room as far away from the PC's plug as possible, and see if there is a difference. (keep the PC on the same outlet)
One suggestion to fix it is by using a UPS, which should cut out all the noise. (However, only get one, if you get a positive result from the above mentioned).
If that doesn't work at all however, it could be your PSU - but just to buy one to test it out is fairly unrealistic, so I understand you don't want to go down that route before trying something else.

Thank you for your reply. But the coil whine is a sound that produced by GPU components , isn’t it? My GPU is silent in this case.

True, but, coil whine can literally come through your speakers rather than from the component itself directly. Hence me bringing it up. It could interfere with something else.
alternatively, since the audio is via a usb interface, have you tried a different USB port? Also are you using front io ports, or the ones on the back? If you use either, try using the other.
given how odd your issue is, I’m trying to “think out of the box” with you, so to speak.

You say that you tried different driver versions, which is good.
But only if you actually installed them properly by using DDU in Safe Mode each time:
[clean install guide] - driver update - DDU - clean registry - sfc scannow
I see you already tried a lot to fix this. So not sure if this info will help you:

Windows Update is known to interfere with the AMD driver installer.
This can result in issues like you are having right now.
Try to follow the clean install guide and then follow the audio fix advice.

Thank you for your reply. I always use DDU for installation/unninstalation drivers. Anyway I decided to make it again with your guide and it didn't help.
I spent some time digging the forum and already saw your post and tried what you've explained there. This didn't help either. I guess that's because I'm not using AMD drivers for sound at all. I'm using external usb audio interface or integrated to MB with Realtek drivers. Both have an issue.

You already checked the GPU without drivers and under another operating system
and it was working without the audio crackling then? Interesting.

If you are able to reproduce the audio crackling via mainboard USB connections
and external audio interface, then maybe BIOS update + chipset driver update could help.
-> also check BIOS settings - some boards can enable/disable the onboard HD audio features
Windows can be acting strange if the chipset driver is not up to date.
Since Windows Update is usually pushing updates that are compatible with up to date drivers.
-> just see how old your current chipset driver is and if there are updates available

- Did you try to disconnect all other USB devices? (for testing)
-> maybe one of them is acting weird (under Windows OS conditions)
- really long shot, but: is that external USB audio device plugged into the same power strip/outlet as the PC?
-> if the device has active power supply unit/cable you could try another wall/power plug
-> there could be interference when plugged into the same outlet where the PC is plugged in
- try to move the external audio device away from other electric devices
- also move the power cables away from that device
-> this might not be the problem at all, but we want to make sure that is not interfering with anything.

I tried to use different usb ports - no change.
And as I described in original post I can reproduce an issue using motherboards audio drivers, without any external usb audio interface.

I've been experiencing a similar issue on my RX 6900 XT but only in games based on DX9.
I tried disabling the audio drivers on the GPU and switching to the on board Realtek audio and kept getting intermittent audio cutouts in some games.
I tried all the different audio outputs fiber optic digital coax red/white RCA style stereo even 1/8 inch jacks to a 5.1 separate JVC home entertainment surround sound setup from 12 years ago.
The problem continued even when I tried a 5 year old Creative Labs 5.1 PCIE x 1 audio card.
All I can say is by my experience and testing is the problem could be in windows 10 or that some applications are not yet supported by these newer GPU's or the apps themselves haven't been updated for DX12 based GPU's.

Yes, I tried to disable AMD audio drivers too. This isn't help.
In my case I'm using 5700xt it's not a new graphic card now and it's wierd that OS and different apps are not adapted to it.
For me it would be nice to see what cases an issue, to see some kind
Maybe there is no problem in the audio output settings? The bit depth and sampling rate in the default mode, try to set 16 bits and 48 khz or another 24 bits and 48 khz.

Guys, it’s not about audio settings, usb devices, ports, slots and so on.
As I told in original post I don’t have any problems with RX570.
Problem is only with 5700XT and it’s drivers.
Maybe 600W is not enough to power up 5700XT?
600 watts should be enough, manufacturers always write the recommended requirements for the power supply are overstated, since they do not know what percentage you have, i3 or some kind of server 12-core with an energy consumption of 300 watts. I have an i9 9900k drain, and an rx 6900xt from partners with overclocking, consumption up to 500 watts from the outlet, and so less. The main thing is that the video card is properly powered by two separate cables from the power supply. We also have a blogger who fumbles in a PC (Repair), he has a youtube channel, he has rtx 3090 and i9 9900k on a 500 watt power supply, and everything works fine, although the power supply is not cheap, but it worked fine)
Well, I guess in this case the problem is in combination - GPU + OS11 + Graphic Driver + USB Audio Driver.
Looks like I can't do anything and should wait for new OS Drivers, or for new audio interface drivers, or for windows 11 update. For now the only way to not experience this issue is switch GPU to RX570 or buy 6XXX series.
Yes, it is rather possible that the problem is in the fresh windows 11 operating system, I did not pay attention to which system you have problems, unless returning to windows 10 will help fix the problem, but it is not a fact that it will help. Except to make a copy of the system on which you are now using Acronis True Image, then roll up 10 Windows, with firewood as it fits, and if the problem is the same, restore the system image that was done using Acronis True Image in order not to install the system, I have a samsung ssd, and I will transfer the system image from ssd to ssd m2, Samsung Data Migration program like, a minute thing) You can even make it easier, buy a not expensive 256gb ssd and roll windows 10 on it, if that leaves your Windows on another drive))

Tried with WIN10 on a new flash drive. Same results.
I've had similar issues with a 5700. Moving the cursor or scrolling through a browser window cause a different pitch. And there's a very noticeable whine through the headphones when a game is at high FPS (1000+), such as on loading screens. I've always assumed it was my PSU or grounding issues.

I guess you have another issue - coil whine. I don’t have any noticeable coil whine.
It's really a very strange problem, in theory, if you actually have an external sound card, and it should not conflict with other devices, it also outputs only sound, apparently the driver probably doesn't mess with the rx 5700 somewhere, although I didn't have any problems on macOS. You can try this utility here, just read everything carefully first https://forums.guru3d.com/threads/windows-line-based-vs-message-signaled-based-interrupts-msi-tool.3... / there seems to be if 2 devices have the same IRQ value, then one of them needs to be switched to msi mode (such as priority mode). It's not a fact that it will help, but just running and watching it won't do it badly.
