Hi,
I've got a Radeon Rx 580 and want to run hip tensorflow (GitHub - ROCmSoftwarePlatform/hiptensorflow: ROCm/HIP enabled Tensorflow.) on Ubuntu / Linux. I've tried before, installed rocm separately and got it to run following the guide on the web page above, but also experienced system freezes without any logged errors and eventually had to do reset my whole system.
With AMD gpupro 17.50 (Installation Instructions for amdgpu Pro / amdgpu All Open Graphics Stacks) there is the option to get rocm packged with the driver as I understand. But sadly only for cards vega or newer ("./amdgpu-pro-install -y --opencl=rocm"). But not for pre-vega (only ./amdgpu-pro-install -y --opencl=legacy).
Can someone explain the difference between the two modes and when the rocm mode will be available for radeon rx?
