7900 XT Driver Problems in Low usage of gpu

Hello, have my first amd chip since a month, and so far it's a mess. In games works the card fully fine, so long the GPU get used (like not in Football Manager), but when just windows in running, or watching anything on YouTube I get (probably) every 5-15 Minutes a driver timeout. In rare cases all colours get send wrong, without any notification, resolution to that is to unplug the screen for a second.

I am short before building back my 1080 into the PC, either to try to give the new card back or so windows will run over the old card and all the games on the new AMD card.

BIOS get updated, latest version of AMD driver (no new version in a month, that's pretty new for me)

Since ever and had not the best drivers, but I heard they managed it. Obviously not, I am kinda mad at AMD.

So my question is how to find out if the card is damaged or for which settings/software should I go for amd cards to have the least driver problems?

Thanks a lot.

Hardware:

Asus dual Radeon 7900 xt OC edition (not OC in use)

I9-11900k

Asus prime Z590-a

Kingston Fury ddr4-3200, 32gb (dual)

This is how it looks when the gpu just sends all colours wrong, i don´t see it every evening, but kinda every second evening.

The often appearing problem looks like a black screen for 1-2 seconds and then a message coming up "driver timeout".

Noone has an Idea?

I mean these Problems are not usual, right?

I just can´t understand why in VR 4k x 4k works perfectly fine, aber hd windows causes problems, because of that i can´t think it´s a hardware problem.

But if there is not even an idea what can help/cause the problem i will try to give the card back on Monday, because it doesn´t make sence paying hundrets of euros for a card which is not working, caused by driver or hardware doesn´t matter then anymore.

Hi,

Firstly, get a copy of DDU and use it to uninstall the previous video card drivers. Make sure to run it in Windows Safe mode. Once done, install the adrenalin drivers from AMD from here for Win10/Win11.

https://drivers.amd.com/drivers/whql-amd-software-adrenalin-edition-24.10.1-win10-win11-oct-rdna.exe

You can get DDU from here
Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) download version 18.0.8.7

After this, if the issue still occurs then you could try disabling resizable bar in the motherboards BIOS if you have it enabled. I am just not sure how well non-AMD motherboards implement/support it. Alternatively, if it's disabled, try enabling it. Nothing to lose.

Lastly, you didn't mention what bios version you have, so just make sure it is the latest. As of posting this reply I see the following on ASUS's website for your motherboard

https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/BIOS/PRIME-Z590-A-ASUS-2203.zip?model=PRIME%20Z590-A

PRIME Z590-A BIOS 2203
Version 2203
11.33 MB

Improve system stability
Before BIOS update, please download Intel ME update tool from ASUS support site, and update ME firmware to Version 15.0.45.2411V2 to ensure optimized system settings.

Best of luck

Sorry, forgot to say use DDU to uninstall any Nvidia and AMD drivers on your system. That may require two runs, one for Nvidia and the next for AMD. After that, reboot and then install the AMD gfx drivers from the link I posted previosuly.

Best of luck.
