RX6800 Not 100% Utilized Bug and mitigation

I have a RX6800 for two years that is observed to underperform most of the time, low utilization, low power draw and clock frequency.

W10 or W11. I've seen numerous frustration posts on various forums with similar issues.

Now I found the solution, if i change the screen scaling from 100% to Maximum the GPU operates at full load.

Easy test for the bug on your system is GPUZ render test, just change the screen scale setting, that's it. see attachments for results.

Its affecting the game  World of Tanks in the same way.

The gpu-z render test does not work correctly in small mode on RX6000 series, in full screen it does though.

This has been acknowledged by the gpu-z Dev.

My PC- Ryzen 5 5600x, B550 aorus pro ac, Hyper 212 black, 2 x 16gb F4-3600c16dgtzn kit, NM790 2TB, Nitro+RX6900XT, RM850, Win.10 Pro., LC27G55T.

Coming back to what you have said here, this only confirms the issue with the RX6000 series, it has to be related to the low utilisation issues that I and a lot of people are experiencing, including reviewers at PCMag.

I have in my possession RX580, 5700, 6800 and 7900XTX, only the RX6800 exhibits the low utilisation behaviour

I’ve had same discussion on techpowerup forums, GPUZ render test does not have full screen, it runs in a window only. Both test shown in the attachments are windowed, the only difference is the screen scaling, normal vs 225%, so everything looks bigger on the screen, not full screen

I can see the effects in game also, lower fps vs higher fps

See image, use amd metrics overlay to display readouts.

To exit the fullscreen render test press escape on keyboard.

I ignored that because it states in brackets for cross fire / SLI?

I did read some where else some one with the same issue was using render test to get the gpu into high gear, then start gaming, that’s why I arrived at house render test.

It seems changing the screen scale has same effect as full screen, I check it out when I’m home again.

The GPU-Z render test is not designed to put a full load on the graphics card, only generate "some" load, to force the PCIe slot to go to max lanes. The help pop-up tells you this.

To address the initial complaint, that the card is not achieving max clocks, it is working as designed. It will clock as high as needed for the present load. By changing the scaling you are creating a slightly higher load which causes clocks to rise to meet the demand. Use something like Furmark and it will for sure put a 100% load on the GPU.
