RAIDXpert with SB950 chipset - RAID1 won't let me rebuild with new drive

Older ASUS M5A995X EVO (not R2.0) with the AMD SB 950 chipset.  SATA RAID in BIOS is enabled (but you can't do anything other than enable it and then you have to choose: Legacy ROM or UEFI Driver).

So you have to build the array with the Legacy ROM on boot.  I did.  2 Sandisk 1 TB SSD in RAID 1

All was well until one drive died.  OK, got a replacement from Western Digital (who owns SANdisk now), but not the exact same model #.  Slap it in the system and the AMD RAIDXpert and drivers and Windows OS will NOT see the drive.  Boot to Legacy ROM for RAID stuff, and it sees the drive just fine, but won't let you "replace" the old/bad drive with the new one.

UNLESS you delete the LD and recreate it, which obviously is a problem.

System will not install RAIDXpert2, only RAIDXpert.

What am I doing wrong, or is this AMD's implementation of RAID 1 where you have to delete everything and reinstall? (kinda defeats the point)
