I played rome 2 total war and after few days pc did freeze once. Mouse could not move and keyboard did not respond but light was on and fans did spin. gpu driver v23.7.1.
Its same freeze I mentioned before that happened in dota 2 and company of heroes 3.
After disabling mpo I play company of heroes 3 without problem but pc did freeze 2 times when game menu was open on one monitor and active browser on second monitor.
Freeze did happen only 2 or 3 times in dota 2 during 2023.
I am tired of that problem.
Yesterday I did update bios from 1.2.0.7 to latest version. I did format system drive and installed windows 10 again. I did install gpu driver v23.7.1 again and latest chipset driver for b450 and audio driver for my motherboard. ryzen master for 5800x3d just to monitor temperature. I use windows 10 ultimate powerplan. I disabled mpo again. I hope problem will not happen again but that is just what I wish.
I do not know how to monitor motherboard vrm temperature but pc have good cooling and b450 tomahawk max should be able to handle 5800x3d.
I finished Dying Light 2 without problem with gpu driver 23.5.2 and I play Warzone 2 without problem.
Is this problem happening because of 2 monitors?
I have 2 monitors and both have same resolution 1920x1080 but one have 165hz via dp (adaptive sync off) and one 144hz refresh rate via hdmi (free sync off).
Any idea what to do?
Is it driver or problem with my pc? but I did test pc and all is good and I can do it again but I think this problem is random and not easy to reproduce and no word from amd about it.
I think the motherboard can't cope with the processor, the VRM 4+2 power supply is not enough for 5800x3D, most likely it overheats
try downloading the AIDA64 program and see the VRM temperatures in the load
I did see test on youtube about motherboards and vrm temperatures and my motherboard did manage to handle overclocked ryzen 9.
same thing did happen with 2700x this year before I got 5800x3d but problem did start to happen around start of 2023 maybe end of 2022.
during stress test when cpu usage is 100% problem did not happen.
No dice, 4+2 VRM? Not even for a 2700X maxed out let alone a OC'ed Ryzen 9.
Although... The board should handle the 5800X3D at its basics of course and with no crashes or freezes, unless its a really bad board.
Have you tried without XMP?
You mentioned 2 monitors, and with just one does it crashes?
Well there is video as proof that board can handle ryzen 9 without pc shutdown from known tech yt channel.
I have this pc for 1 year and 7 months but I did add parts over time and this problem did start to happen around start of 2023.
Well since I got second monitor I did use both of them and did not think of using just one.
I did test company of heroes 3 without xmp and pc did freeze but after disabling mpo I played without problem and pc did freeze when company of heroes 3 main menu was open and I was using firefox on second monitor but at least I can play it.
During 2023 It did happen 2-3 times in dota 2 and 1 time in rome 2 total war and many times in coh3. But I am not only one who reported this problem during dota 2 game on this forum.
During pc testing all is good.
all good with other games --- horzon zero dawn, Warzone 2 ,dying lgiht 1 and 2, last of us part 1,tomb rider, cyberpunk, witcher 3, sniper elite 4.....
Idk its that crash because pc will not restart image will just freeze and no response from mouse and keyboard and I need to fore restart with button on pc case.
shader optimization in last of us part 1 will force 100% cpu usage if I am not wrong and there was no problem.
I believe we are not here to discuss VRM, because its like I said, working and working to full potential is different. But that may (let me put the may in bold) not be the culprit.
Try with just one screen on the affected games because you mentioned it crashed when you used a browser in the second one.
Looks like a software issue somewhere because you run all other games plus stress tests well.
Try enabling/disabling VSYNC on the affected games too.
have you tried to roll back the drivers to those stable ones when there were no freezes?
I did report problem with driver v22.11.2 in january 2023 and in that post I said that v22.11.1 did help but I do not remember details. I did try every driver in 2023 and same problem did happen. Only pc change is second monitor that I got in end of 2022 and in april 2023 I upgraded cpu from 2700x to 5800x3d.
what power supply make/model?
How is the air flow thru your case? What case is it? You have to keep your VRM's and RAM cool too, especially with your current configuration
are you running separate power cables from your PSU to each power input on your GPU?
PSU GX-850
Define S
8x140mm p14 1600rpm
wraith prism max rpm
6700XT STRIX I think same cooler is on 3090 strix and cooling for card is very good.
Air flow is good and I do not have problem with high temperatures.
5800x3d temperature when I play games is around 75C and both gpu temperatures are low even under full load and oc. Problem did happen without and with gpu oc and with both cpus and with xmp disabled.
I have 2 pack of 2x8 ram but I think they are same just name is changed (hyperx predator|renegade). I did run memtest 86 and after 1 pass all good but It did take too much time so I did not wait for all 4 of them.
Problem did start to happen after I got second monitor and maybe I will test with one monitor only and in company of heroes 3 it can be reproduced easy if mpo is enabled (1-20 matches 1v1 coh3).
I think you can find similar reports.
If this is not just my problem and I think its not because I did see reports from other users. It will be good to get some information about it from AMD.
Pc freeze is not mentioned in driver notes as known problem and investigation is needed.
Pc freeze --- image stuck and pc not responding but still on.
Have you tried switching back to the windows balanced power plan for testing?
And using mixed 4 stick ram could be an issue?
memtest86 did not show error but I plan to try memtest86 again or use only 2 sticks of 4. I need to test it in company of heroes 3 because I did manage to reproduce it only there and even than it will take time.
I can try windows balanced power plan but it will take time to test and now I wait for problem to happen again before I try something else because I did reinstall windows and have latest drivers and bios.
It will take time and I can not play coh3 all day every day just for testing and its rare in other games and I am not sure 100% how to reproduce it because it looks random but I did manage to do it.
Problem did start to happen with driver version 22.11.2 and I did test every driver version in 2023.
If memtest86 did not find errors, ram sticks are ok? I did test with xmp on and off.
My GPU have 1 hdmi and 3 displayports. There is priority among them I think.
dp-hdmi-dp-dp is order
second monitor is connected with hdmi and main monitor with dp but it was dp in position 3 from left so I changed it to dp in position 1 from left and bios will now show on main monitor.
I did not mention that my mouse have 2000 polling rate option and I use it.
All good for now after fresh windows installation.
Did it still good? I got almost the same problem, RX6700XT dual monitor and crashed while playing RDR2 or C2077.
Already did new windows install but still crashed. What driver did you use?
I did have v23.7.1 (1 freeze before new windows installation) and for last 2 days I have v23.7.2.
pc did not freeze since I installed fresh windows.
I tried many things and maybe I solved it somehow.
pc freeze did happen with driver versions 22.11.2---23.7.1
I started new discussion to resume there because here is mess.
Link to new discussion https://community.amd.com/t5/drivers-software/6700xt-random-pc-freezing-since-v22-11-2-and-with-ever...
pc freeze did happen again with v23.7.2.
AMD any help or information?
