I have the 2024 ASUS G14 AMD model that has the Radeon 780M iGPU. Its been close to a year and the option to turn on Dynamic Refresh Rate is still greyed out. Would be great if the display panel can be white listed via a driver update as this will help the battery life of the laptop a lot.
Is this the right forum to address such a problem? I have tried many forums, reddit but unable to find a solution or find the right place to address this issue.
If you use AMD hardware, its ok to post here i guess.
Now for your issue.. does the display report beeing VRR/freesync compatibility? Display tab in radeon software could provide some clues. So if you could post those, that would be great.
I found a Post about the 2023 model which also didnt show freesync/gsync/vrr/adaptive-sync until panel power saver was enabled in armoury crate app from ASUS
On the 2024 model, freesync works (I can see it from AMD Adrenalin), GSYNC also works within NVIDIA App. Only Dynamic Refresh Rate seems to be the one that is not working (greyed out). Saw a similar issue on the Framework forums which was fixed with a driver update.
For DRR the display show ar least do 120Hz with adaptive sync/freesync/g-Sync
Not sure what is meant, but the display does support 120Hz with freesync/gsync capability.
Is there anyone who works on AMD drivers able to support here?
Does the monitor support 'variable refresh rate technology', have you checked with asus support/forum?
In Windows Display > Graphics is there a VRR setting, or a compatibility option in nvidia control panel?
Yes the display supports VRR. In fact when I use the dGPU (NVIDIA 4060), Dynamic Refresh Rate works with no issues. The issue seems to be with the iGPU from AMD
Assuming you have reasonably new drivers from AMD.
Are you sure it is not a proprietary function for nvidia only, i have seen posts on intel forums where the tech is locked out for them on some (gsync) screen models (only works on the nvidia graphics card).
If asus tech support say it should work on your model, then you may want to put in a AMD support ticket at https://www.amd.com/en/forms/contact-us/support.html
