How to install drivers for Mobility Radeon HD 4850 under Ubuntu 22.04

I have an older iMac 11,1 with a 4850 card which I want to use for Blender, but Im struggling to install the gpu drivers.  I have downloaded the 64 bit driver from https://www.amd.com/en/support/graphics/amd-radeon-hd/ati-mobility-radeon-hd-4000-series/ati-mobilit...

This gives me a .run file. After setting permissions I can run it, it opens a terminal windows and runs, ask me for sudo password, and then closes. Now what? What is the next step?

I've previously set nomodeset in grub, as it was the only way to get anything to display on the screen at all.

I did try to download https://www.amd.com/en/support/linux-drivers as well, and then ran

sudo apt install -f ./amdgpu-install_5.4.50405-1_all.deb

and then

amdgpu-install

but this gave me quite alot of errors. Could use some help understanding what to do next.
