Hello,
I just got a new PC and was pumped to crank some settings and play some games with ray tracing. However, it is not going according to plan.
I have three games that support ray tracing: Cyberpunk 2077, Control, and Doom Eternal. With ray tracing disabled they all work perfectly. As soon as you enable ray tracing, the game refuses to load and crashes.
In Cyberpunk, you can make through the character creation process, but when you hit 'Confirm' and start a new game it will crash during the loading screen. Same for the benchmark; makes it through loading screen and then crashes. One time I loaded a save game from when I started without ray tracing and it worked for about 20 seconds (ray tracing was clearly working) then crashed in the same fashion as before. AMD Adrenalin software crashes along with the game and I may have to restart the computer before it will run again. That being said, I am able to use Windows and relaunch Cyberpunk to try again, contrary to my other two games...
In Control, I will start a new game with ray tracing enabled and it will go through the loading screen, start the eerie music, then freeze. My whole computer will be locked up and I can't even ctrl+alt+del my way out of it, has to be a hard reset. If I turn off ray tracing the game loads without issue.
Doom Eternal is the exact same as Control. Start a new game with ray tracing enabled and it will actually go through the whole intro sequence, but as soon as it starts to load the actual real-time game it freezes on the splash screen and the computer has to be rebooted.
As far as troubleshooting, I haven't reinstalled the games as all three were fresh installations on a brand new PC and I find it unlikely all three of them will have installation issues. I've removed and reinstalled AMD Adrenalin software a couple of times. Drivers are up to date (Driver Version 22.40.00.62-230106a-387257C-AMD-Software-Adrenalin-Edition) , as is Windows.
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600x
GPU: XFX Radeon 7900 XTX (base version, not the Merc Speedster)
Motherboard: Gigabyte Aorus B650 Pro AX
Memory: 32GB G.Skill Trident 6000 CL 36
SSD: Samsung 980 EVO Pro
Windows 11
PSU: Corsair 1000w
I'm not sure what to do next, any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Greg

Hey, thanks a lot for responding, I really appreciate you taking the time out of your day to help.
That being said, since I posted this I've opened a ticket with XFX and done a bunch of troubleshooting.... to find out I have a defective card. I tried the card in another system and it worked fine, then we tried a 7900 XT in my system and it worked perfectly. Symptoms followed the card.
Anyway, thanks again for the advice, that was very kind of you.
I have doom eternal. Out of curiosity I will install it to see if my 7900 xt will run it. It should work fine because I seen a video of a guy on youtube running it with ray tracing.
I just played Doom Eternal and got through the Ray Tracing Menu enabling.
So it must be your pc because doom eternal works pretty well on my computer.
Check your cables to the video card to see if they are plugged in right. They need a separate cable for each slot. I read that can fix some problems.
Try Re-seating the GPU. Sometimes they aren't in all the way.
