Hi All
Sorry for posting if this question has already been asked and answered.
I am (or at least a colleague is) have a problem with multiple displays and Eyefinity. I am asking (rather then him) because I am the local IT support at my company.
Our setup is as follows: A Dell Fixed Precision Workstation with a Intel Core i9-11900, 460W PSU, 64 GB Ram. 2x 512 PCIe Class 50 SSD, AMD Radeon Pro W5500 8GB 4DP.
We got Windows 10 Pro preinstalled, but I ended up re-installing Windows myself as I was having problems with some of the pre-installed Dell software.
I installed Adrenalin 2020 Edition 21.3.2 - I did this around 9th September. Looking at the download page now it looks like the current version 21.9.1 was released yesterday.
We have 4x Dell 55 inch Conference Room Screens attached to the 4 outputs on the W5500 and Dell 24 inch connected to the on-board Dell Display Port output.
I used Eyefinity to configure the 55 inch displays as 1 on its own and the other 3 grouped. This seemed to work previously without a problem. However today, my colleague has informed me of some issues.
Issue 1: When we turn off the single 55 inch display, the whole system crashes with a blue screen and points to an AMD drive. When back in Windows, the AMD Bug Report Tool suggests that there was a timing issue. I have submitted a bug report. Interestingly, if we turn off one of the grouped 3 displays, there is no crash, the displays just reconfigure as two individual displays.
Issue 2: When I go back into the AMD Radeon Pro application (right click on desktop), I cannot see my Eyefinity configuration, it only gives me options for Quick Setup and Advanced Setup - I previously remember there being one to remove current setup - I am sure this was there when I initially configured it.
I think something has gone wrong such that only have the Eyefinity configuration is active, hence why I cannot remove the current setup.
I don't want to uninstall and reinstall the drivers right now or until I have the thoughts of others on this forum.
Anyone have any ideas? Anyone seen similar before?
By the way, unless the drivers were automatically updated, I have not manually done so, nor can I see evidence of this in Windows Update or Add/Remove Programs.
Thanks
Anand
AMD Moderator @fsadough that specializes in Professional GPU Cards might be of help.
Have you contacted Dell Support by any chance? If so what did they recommend?
Not sure if this would contribute to your issue or not but according to this website with a PC using an Intel I9-11900K Processor and W5500 GPU card you need a minimum PSU of 500 Watts: https://www.whatpsu.com/psu/cpu/Intel-Core-i9-11900K/gpu/AMD-Radeon-Pro-W5500
Maybe you might want to check the PSU outputs when you have all monitors connected and on at the same time.
So your PSU is very slightly under-powered for your hardware installed.
Hi,
Thank you for your reply.
We have previously contacted Dell on this issue when the computer was first delivered in late August. At the time we had similar issues with crashes, however these crashes occurred at random, with things a simple as moving the mouse, or clicking on the address bar in a browser.
The Dell tech support initially said that he had never heard of the W5500 card we have driving 4 screens and that the fact that the screens being 55 inch could be the problem - also noting that Sales probably sold us the wrong thing. Anyway, they soon agreed to replace the graphics card.
The person they sent out was not a Dell employee, but a third party instructed to just change the card. When changed, he noted the old card was very toasty.
After the card was replaced, as previously noted, I re-installed Windows because I had problems with something pre-installed conflicting with us installing anything from Adobe Creative Cloud - Adobe spent the best part of a day trying to help without much success.
I too had concerns with the power supply after delivery and after experiencing the crashes. However I did not choose the supply and it was selected by Dell after requesting the rest of the configuration.
Given adequate cooling in the case, how hot should this card actually run?
Given adequate power, should this card have any problems driving 4x 55inch 4K screens?
When you say check the PSU outputs when all screens are connected, what do you mean exactly? Any guidance on this would be appreciated.
Thanks
Anand
Hi
Sorry, just missed one point from my previous post.
In the PSU Calc you provided, you have used a i9-11900K, the processor I have is the non-k variant , whose TDP is 65W, thhs the calculator suggests a 400W is sufficient.
However, I still agree that the installed PSU Wattage is still a bit too close to the to required for my comfort.
Thanks
Anand
Okay Thanks for the update.
I am sure your last replies will be helpful to @fsadough about your Professional W5500 GPU Card.
With the Intel Processor that you mentioned than it looks like you have adequate power from the PSU.
The only thing that comes to mind is try stress testing your hardware to see if it fails or not.
OCCT has three tests, CPU , GPU, & PSU. It is free and while testing observe the Temperatures and PSU Outputs unless Moderator FSADOUGH has other ways of testing your Professional GPU card or PC.
Please be more specific to your system set up.
Hi fsadough
Sorry for the very long delay in replying, the computer went off site and I was also busy with other work.
However, we experienced another problem when the computer was offsite - it crashed when trying to play a YouTube video.
Given the number of problems we have had with this computer, we have sent it back to Dell as not fit for purpose.
However I am going to answer the questions that you posed below for completeness and in case it helps anyone else in the same or similar position:
Thanks
