Hey,
ever since I updated from 24.4 i have had this freezing Issue with every newer driver.
Whenever I am in Fullscreen Mode on either one of the two monitors, then try to tab out or do something as simple as use the
volume controls on my keyboard, the whole PC freezes for at least 30s and sometimes even crashes. It doesn't even have to be a game
it even crashed on YT videos or Netflix. I have tried everything from updating all other drivers up to flashing the bios and nothing works.
I am looking for a solution without having to downgrade to the older drivers as this has been a problem for longer now.
Specs:
- 13th Gen Intel i5-13600K
- AMD Radeon RX 7700 XT
- MSI PRO Z790-S WIFI
- 32GB DDR5 RAM
Thank you!
I think I was experiencing a similar issue on the 24.5.1 driver. I installed the drivers two weeks ago and started to experience the issue yesterday. I was watching a Youtube video, and the video froze but the sound continued. My Firefox became unresponsive, and so did Windows. I could not open task manager, close any tabs on the browser, open the start menu, or do much of anything, Windows wasn't having it! I had to reboot my PC manually. After rebooting, I noticed that my Adrenalin software had an exclamation mark. When I clicked on it, I saw a message that said something along the lines of "Had to reset to default settings".
Last night I updated to drivers ver. 24.9.1, and got a similar crash today. Have been watching Youtube most of the day and had no issue until I did. This time the video froze and so did the sound, but Windows did not crash and was still fully functional.

LOL you can broke PC in many ways. Not Driver issue.
Sure you can, but this PC was fine until I installed the drivers. Nothing else was changed.
The fact that the Adrenalin had the message of resetting all settings to default after the crash, also suggests that it is a driver issue.
same problem but only with battlefield 5, i7-9700K, 7900 gre
Freezing video.....I think it takes special skills/abilities to write software that makes video (and the PC) freeze on pretty recent hardware like that. I can play HD video on an old AMD system (phenom II) for hours without a single glitch.
I have problems with both drivers 24.09 and 24.10 in games. Dark areas are suddenly brightly lit when turning quickly and in a cave it looks as if someone has switched on the light. With driver 24.05 there are no such problems, even with 23.12.1 everything works perfectly. What has been changed so massively since 24.09?
Here is the result with 24.09 and 24.10 This area should actually only be dark.

I was actually just about to create a new post. I am having this exact same problem in Fortnite when using Lumen global lighting. It does this on both 24.09.1 and 24.10.1. I've had to revert back to 24.8.1 and put up with AMD software randomly opening itself up for no reason. I suspect it's something they introduced when they added frame generation in the drivers.
I haven't tried too many other games but it's good to know it's not just Fortnite.
I'm on a 7900 XTX and R7 5800X3D.
I have described it in more detail in a separate discussion so that the problem can be seen more clearly. Here you can also see the difference between 24.5 and 24.10. I have added the link:

Best regards and let's hope that the problem is dealt with quickly.
Hey, did you fix the problem? i just updated my driver to 24.10.1 and i am having problems with fortnite when loading in its freezing. Before i upgraded i dropped frames and lagged in fortnite in game. Did you fix ur problem? if so, how?
Hi jadhili,
I have just updated the driver to 24.10 to check if anything has changed. Unfortunately no improvement yet. I don't have the problem with 24.5 and I'm still using that.
Best regards and hope for a quick update!
Hi,
I just wanted to let you know that the problem is no longer present with 24.12.1. Did the update fix your problem?
Best regards
Adrenalin software popping up for no reason was declared on this forum to also be solved months ago. Again a driver issue that made a comeback? Or should chambs1 shove in a new bigger power supply or tweak his RAM settings? Anyone?
All I can say is that I recognize the problem. No matter what people on this forum tell you there are some very very serious issues with AMD graphic drivers and to be honest my knowledge about software is not enough to point out what exactly goes wrong. But clearly these issues must be taken seriously and addressed. Read my own experiences in this thread.
Luckily my driver issues didn't crash my whole PC but the unresponsiveness I experienced. Just the other day I saw a 6600 XT crash just after a graphics intensive game was played. The image totally garbled with somewhere in the mess a totally unreadable blue screen. I never saw a graphics card crash like that before. It just should not happen that a PC cannot even display the blue screen properly. Card only a few years old in a very very decent hardware configuration build by a professional. Message for the nitwits (sorry I meant to say badge hunters:)
I did see Windows 11 crash (and not be able to recover itself) after installing AMD storage MI. That software installs it's own (storage) drivers. Producing a storage driver seems much easier to me then producing a decent graphics driver. So after that experience I learned not to trust AMD software, not even the slightest.
Try it yourself and see what might happen:

My advise to everyone who has a good functioning system with AMD hardware/drivers is: Backup your OS, the whole system, before updating a driver or installing AMD software. You will not be warned of the issues that come with it before installing. You can use for example paragon software or disk genius for that. When you experience issues after a driver update just load the backup (THE WHOLE OS) and try to update the AMD driver a few months, thus a few iterations, later. That way you'll keep your peace of mind which is much more important than a good working PC. If AMD would produce a mouse, or even a keyboard, I'd backup the whole OS before installing the AMD dedicated driver. That's because I don't want to spend time troubleshooting or reinstalling Windows.
