7900XTX Memory Leak

Hey everyone,

I believe I am experiencing a memory leak with my 7900XTX (a Sapphire Nitro+, which I am running on Windows 11 with a Ryzen 9 7900X3D if that is helpful).  What is basically happening is that when I boot my PC, everything is fine, and I can open any game or run any application with no issues.  Over the course of about 10-15 minutes, I start to lose GPU-related functions.  Games won't open, I cannot run media files (videos files using VLC for example), the snipping tool won't open, certain things while web browsing become extremely slow and clunky.  This happens if I just let the PC run without opening anything.  If I boot my PC and launch a game immediately, it launches with no problems (though I have not had any extremely long gaming sessions since this started so I do not know how long a game will run, though I've gotten to go at least an hour).

I've tried several games when this is happening and most of them either don't launch or give me a white screen, but Hogwart's Legacy actually gives me an error that there is not enough video memory.

I have tried updating drivers, updating my motherboard bios, switching the bios on the 7900XTX (as it has a secondary bios), downgrading to previous driver for my GPU (which actually seems to have worked, but I was then getting blue screens of death which I consider to be worse than this problem!), updating Windows, updating other drivers.  Nothing I have done seems to work.

Also, and I am not sure if this has anything to do with it, but under my device manager, under AMD Radeon(TM) Graphics I am getting a Code 43 error and under AMD PSP11.0 Device I am getting a Code 10 error.

If anyone has any suggestions I would sincerely welcome them! One of the good and also frustrating things is that my PC is generally useable, I just can't do anything with the GPU really unless I restart my PC.  Any ideas are deeply appreciated.

Thats a strange problem . I have the same card but with a 5900x on Win10 and nothing like that has poppped up . The only thjing that comes to mind is that it could be a Winn 11 thing more so , speacially with that error code .

But I found this thread that may help :  https://community.amd.com/t5/drivers-software/amd-psp-11-0-device-events-gt-device-not-started/m-p/5...

Thank you for the direction on the PSP bit! I am looking into that now, and have no idea if it is related or not but I am pulling at strings here.  The good news is that on r/AMDhelp on reddit, several other people have reported the same issue starting around the same time as me, all with a 7900xtx or 7900xt.  To me that indicates it might be driver issue rather than a memory leak or something with my primary RAM (and I also ran a Windows diagnostics memory test and nothing came up).

I am having the exact same issue with my 7900XTX while its the PowerColor Red Devil card and I'm still on windows 10. Whenever I restart my computer everything will be fine for around 10 minutes and I can launch any game going into device manager and disabling and reenabling the card also has the same effect, but after a while anything I try to open that requires my graphics card will have an error and before I started having this issue I had bluescreened 4 times. I have also tried reseating my graphics card, uninstalling my graphics drivers and fresh installing and it has not made a difference. Does anyone have a possible solution to this?

Really sorry to hear this as it seems like your issue is a bit more extreme than what I am experiencing (though still very similar).  There are a couple of people on Reddit that seem to be having similar issues as well, and one of them had some success by clocking their RAM down from 6000MHz to 5200MHz.  It might be a shot in the dark for you but may be worth a try.

This describes the issue I'm having perfectly (down to the snip tool not working).  I have the 7900XTX Red devil addition - tried multiple drivers and BIOS update.

Some simple games do load using integrated graphics, but most won't launch.  I was able to get an error log from Factorio declaring an out of memory error.  I am not out of memory.

How can we make AMD aware of this issue? I'm encountering the same thing, Snipping tool too.

I'm about to return this 7900 xtx. Really don't want to though.

I have exactly the same problem with Sapphire Nitro+ 7900XTX

Do you have HP Omen installed on your PC? That is what was causing the problems for me.  Once I installed it, all the problems went away.  I am not sure what, but I clearly have some piece of hardware that whenever the driver updates, Omen gets re-installed, as I find it again on my system once every few months.

I clean windows reinstall fixed the issue for me. I think the problem for me was that I was updating from Windows 10 to Windows 11 and on top I was using Nvidia GPU before.

Code 43 according to Microsoft: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/fix-graphics-device-problems-with-error-code-43-6f6ae1ec...

- Just to check: have you updated the BIOS/UEFI recently or the chipsets?

- Do you have some sort of custom connector or do you use the standard connector for the GPU? (I'm asking because, keeping in mind the disaster with the Geforce 4090 in the past, there might be incompetent custom-cable companies who cause the connectors to melt - which would be one possible reason for the code 43)

Also keeping in mind the code 10 of PSP 11, which according to Reddit is a power failure. And that's generally not a driver thing, but either motherboard/BIOS (failure to initialize the boot section for the GPU and not providing power due to that), power cable (see: e.g. melting) or other hardware issue problems.

- Have you applied some form of overclocking? If so, would it change if you revert the overclock?

- What are the idle temperatures on your motherboard and GPU?

- Have you checked the seating of the GPU? E.g, is there no 'spare room' which shouldn't be there between the GPU and the slots?
