The other day I went into the woods again for my weekly hike and found some very photogenic specimens. As I have said before, PLEASE DO NOT USE THESE PHOTOS TO IDENTIFY ANY MUSHROOMS YOU FIND IN THE WILD. Always make sure you have a positive ID on any mushrooms you find before handling or eating them. Many look-a-likes exist that can cause health problems, and even fatalities.
I did find one edible species and it was verified by the local experts I know. Hen of the woods. The rest, while photogenic, I left them be.
I believe these to be honey mushrooms, however I have not gotten a positive ID from my local expert.I could not identify these, but the color of these is beautiful.Another unknown, however these pink mushrooms needed their picture taken. This cluster was so cool.I think these are wax caps, but I don't chance it by harvesting them, in case they are other significantly toxic mushrooms. I am paranoid about accidentally eating something that I am not certain is edible. These guys were slimy looking, so naturally they get their picture taken. This is hen of the woods. I got a positive ID from an expert, and they taste great breaded and fried.
This thing was huge. I didn't harvest. I only harvest what I plan to eat and can positively ID.
