More Mushrooms

The other day I went into the woods again for my weekly hike and found some very photogenic specimens. As I have said before, PLEASE DO NOT USE THESE PHOTOS TO IDENTIFY ANY MUSHROOMS YOU FIND IN THE WILD. Always make sure you have a positive ID on any mushrooms you find before handling or eating them. Many look-a-likes exist that can cause health problems, and even fatalities.

I did find one edible species and it was verified by the local experts I know. Hen of the woods. The rest, while photogenic, I left them be.

I am paranoid about accidentally eating something that I am not certain is edible.I think these are wax caps, but I don't chance it by harvesting them, in case they are other significantly toxic mushrooms. Morel mushrooms contain a lot of vitamin D. They are also a low-fat, plant-based food that makes a great addition to a heart-healthy diet as an ingredient or as a meat substitute. Adding more plant foods to your diet can lower your cholesterol, give you more energy, and supplement your diet with a wealth of nutrients.

Excellent pictures @cpurpe91 .  My wife loves to take pictures of mushrooms and I do my best to keep her from picking them on our walks in the woods of Northern Virginia.  You remember that Clint Eastwood movie from 1971 called The Beguiled?  Mushrooms played a part in that.
