VCN 4 VMAF score

Hello people of the community, I was reading this article, I'm surprised that the VMAF benchmark scores are so low, especially when the new RDNA 3 have dedicated codec and decodec ICs, streaming live shouldn't be a problem, however at rates like 6Mb/s on Twitch fast movements are noticeably pixelated, both in H264, HEVC and AV1 the problem persists and the results are shown in the Toms Hardware article.

In the image described, the ASIC Media Engine has a size comparable to 3 computing units, it is huge, it is what AMD Radeon 760M has and its performance could be equivalent, around 4 TFLOPS to encode and decode in 4K 60fps HDR Rec2020.

I think it can be solved:

  • Add Video Quality (VQ) and Quality-of-Experience (QoE) Engine
  • Adding more instructions (for example quad media engine)
  • Fully exploit all the features offered by FFMPEG 6
  • Develop your own audio/video codec/decode library to integrate it into AMF
  • A combination of all the characteristics so that the Media engine is the best of all

What do you think? How could it be improved?

My cordial greetings.
