Red Cpu led on mobo

In the past 2 weeks i have had Cpu red led on my motherboard three times while my computer gets power normally.

I have checked for bent pins or scrathes underneath the cpu and the motherboard seems fine all in all.

They way i fix it is i get the cmos battery out for a couple of minutes then put it back in and it boots up fine

but i cant keep doing this every couple of days because that way i cant know what is wrong with my pc for sure.

What could possibly be the problem/factor that is causing this ?

Cpu : Ryzen 5 7600

Mobo : MSI pro b650s

Side note : I have updated chipset drivers, bios and drivers in general to the latest version if that helps.

If after clearing CMOS the computer boots, it could be something with the board. I would consider a warranty claim.

Are you adjusting something inside BIOS afterwards? Run it stock with no changes, not even EXPO.

Good luck

Only things im changing are turning off PBO and CPB alongside getting my ram speed from 4800 to

6000 nothing else.

So basically what you are saying to clarify is that intermittently for the past two weeks your PC fails to boot up with a Motherboard CPU TROUBLE LED lit up correct?

To fix this you need to remove the CMOS Battery (Reset BIOS back to Default Settings) to get your PC to boot up normally again correct?

As Johnnyenglish mentioned it sounds like a Motherboard issue. Since you need to remove the CMOS battery which resets BIOS back to default to boot up again it is either a bad BIOS configuration setting that is causing the problem or your have a Motherboard with a defective part on it.

Once you remove the CMOS battery do you again input your customized BIOS settings like RAM speed etc or do you leave it at its Default settings?

If you leave it at its Default settings and it the problem is fixed would indicate a bad BIOS setting causing the issue. But if it still intermittently fails to boot with the CPU Trouble LED lit up then it is a Motherboard issue.

Download OCCT and run all 3 tests to stress your system. See if it crashes especially the PSU test.  If it runs fine all three tests then I suggest your open a MSI SUPPORT Warranty ticket to have your Motherboard RMAed to be checked or replaced.

Also run MEMTEST86 to rule out defective intermittent RAM modules. Sometimes incompatible or defective RAM can cause the CPU Trouble LED to light up in a failed Boot up.

To give some more context. I have my computer for 7 months now and this problem started

approximately 2 weeks ago.

The only things i have changed in the bios are my ram speeds from 4.8k to 6k and i turned off

CorePerformanceBoost and PrecisionBoostOverdrive because i dont need the auto overclocking

that much and since i have the box cooler i want lower temps, thats all from bios configs.

This situation makes me very confused since everything was running perfectly fine until now,

which i find very random because literally the settings have been the same for the past month or so.

I will try the things you suggested and if nothing works ill figure out the msi warranty.

To be on the safe side also open a AMD SUPPORT - Warranty ticket and see if they believe it might be a CPU issue or not: https://www.amd.com/en/forms/contact-us/support.html

Personally it doesn't sound like a intermittent CPU but I have been surprised in past by Users replacing the CPU and fixing something that didn't seem related at all to the CPU.

Intermittent problems is one of the hardest problems to troubleshoot since the hardware/software is working completely normal and then act up all of a sudden causing issues.

NOTE: Since the problem occurs during POST it is pretty certain it is a hardware issue since Windows is not enabled at that stage only BIOS/UEFI.

So i should warranty check and talk with MSI and AMD just to be very sure about both

of the components and while i have these two checked i should try the tests you

recommended me to do to see how the system is after some stress testsor if any problems occur.

Well i will try everything you suggested me to do and if anything changes or gets worse which i hope not i'll come back to this post to give a small update on the situation.

Thank you for the help i really appreciate it. I am still new to the pc scene its my first

custom built pc so you know im worrying a bit about it since i still have minimal knowledge.

Yes, I would open a Warranty ticket with MSI and a AMD SUPPORT -WARRANTY ticket with AMD.

No harm in going that route except time you spent writing the tickets to MSI and AMD.

AMD SUPPORT-WARRANTY is not a AMD Warranty ticket but to find out if AMD believes you need to RMA your processor to be checked or not under Warranty.

Using MEMTEST86 (Best option) or Windows Memory Diagnostic to physically check your RAM is just to eliminate intermittent hardware defective RAM modules you have installed.

It won't tell you if it is compatible but since your PC boots up normally and works fine with the RAM then it probably is compatible RAM.

Good luck and please post back if MSI or AMD replies back to inform myself and other Users.

EDIT: You really don't need to follow my personal suggestions or anyone else personal suggestions since I am, like yourself, a User.  But if you do, you can always google any suggestions you are given to see if they agree with you or not or ask the User to give you web links to why they suggested that.

I hear you. I do appreciate the help and the suggestions and of course i will post either here or in a new discussion the updates so you and others know what happened and maybe the

information i gather in the proccess of trying to figure out a solution to this problem could

help the community too if needed.
