This is a post about Path of Exile2 and AMD's poor implementation of shader caching overall.
I own both AMD and Nvidia GPUs, which are used by myself and my wife, alongside older cards kept specifically for testing (from previous generations). Nvidia handles on-the-fly shader caching in Path of Exile and gaming in general, exceptionally well. On the other hand, AMD's implementation is outright terrible. The Radeon team seriously needs to step it up.
Every gaming session with my AMD cards involves waiting 30–60 seconds after loading into a map (yes, Path of Exile 2 also has room for improvement here) while shaders are cached. During this process, FPS tanks, making the experience feel incredibly frustrating and subpar.
Why is the Radeon team not addressing this issue? They removed the shader cache management option from the Adrenalin software ages ago, leaving users to manually clear the cache without seeing any real performance improvements. This has been an ongoing problem for years, and it's baffling that no meaningful progress has been made. Sometimes I just want to not game on my AMD cards when things like this happen. Stepping away from the high end GPU scene is one thing, but you guys are still well behind regardless of low-mig-high end cards in basic functions such as shader caching.
