I used to have rx 480 then upgraded to rx 6600. I use Daz Studio to simulate cloth with dForce which uses openCL.
After I installed the new card and drivers Daz studio cannot initialize openCL kernels.
After searching google it seems like there must be a dword in Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Khronos\OpenCL\Vendors that points to an opencl driver but its empty. I tried linking to various opencl drivers, nothing works. The Daz forums are no help. There are some websites that say that AMD dropped openCL support but the libraries are still there Im just not sure how to link them. Anyone has any idea?
can you upload a image of GPU-Z with your RX6600 GPU and AMD driver installed?
That will show if OpenCL was enabled on your GPU Card by the AMD Driver.
Looks like its enabled?
Yes it is enabled for OpenCL plus it has check marked all the other applicable APIs for your AMD GPU card which indicates the AMD Driver is installed correctly.
So the problem is either the latest AMD Driver or AMD latest GPU cards is not compatible with Daz Studio.
Which version of Windows OS do you have currently installed?
Here are the latest RX6600 AMD Driver: https://www.amd.com/en/support/graphics/amd-radeon-6000-series/amd-radeon-6600-series/amd-radeon-rx-...
Here is Previous RX6600 Drivers: https://www.amd.com/en/support/previous-drivers/graphics/amd-radeon-6000-series/amd-radeon-6600-seri...
Found this Reddit Thread concerning the exact same issue you are having with Daz Studio. One of the Users mentioned you have to install a 3rd party Opencl to make it work with AMD GPU Cards and Daz Studio: https://www.reddit.com/r/Daz3D/comments/qokq1f/unable_to_simulate_using_amd_gpu/
I read that Daz Studio is optimized for Nvidia GPU Cards which could be your issue and the above thread seems to verify that.
Since your AMD Driver is properly installed and working than the issue is compatibility with Daz Studio and your RX6600 GPU card.
Its windows 10. Looks like i might have to downgrade drivers
I doubt if a previous driver will work any better but you have nothing to lose. Maybe the latest is not compatible with the latest version of Daz Studio.
Let me know if it works or not.
Good luck.
You are right it didnt work. Oh well. Thank You for the help either way
Having spent the last couple of months sending (and resending) log files and screenshots to DAZ support I can confirm that they are aware of the issue but have put it down to AMD having probably dropped support for openCL on 6000 series GPUs.
Despite knowing about the issue for at least six months they don't seem to have contacted AMD to confirm this or get a workaround although apparently they have tested some three year old AMD graphics drivers that worked.
I've informed DAZ support that LuxMark 3.1 runs perfectly on my machine and confirms openCL v2.1 compatibility but they still stick to their "AMD have probably dropped support for openCL" line, in spite of the evidence (including screenshots) to the contrary.
Although their response claimed that they were investigating the issue I fear that the only outcome will be a statement somewhere advising DAZ studio users to be "wary of using certain AMD cards". (as they put it in their response to me)
Until a fix is released I would, therefore, strongly recommend that, if you have an AMD graphics card, you avoid buying any dForce assets unless you are certain that they will suit your need without the dForce functionality.
Some assets may fall back to slightly derpy looking default fit, others (particularly hair) go completely crazy and are just totally unusable.
