Price rot has brought the RX 480 8GB to $99 canadian pesos. This will solve the VRAM problem with select games and while slightly more powerful than my GTX 1060, realistically this card is maybe 4% faster.
The only upside is 8GB of VRAM so games will run more smoothly.
Should be fun to see how well Radeon does at 3840x2160 HDR which is what my panel is. The RX 480 has 36 compute units which is mediocre by today's standards but beats up on the old HD 7850 in the junk box.
