Two games I've been playing lately are World of Tanks and World of Tanks - Blitz. I play it through my Steam account and the online game server places me into random games where my tank is matched up with those at similar levels. Is there any way to host this game on your own server? If not, is there a way for several friends to get into the same game and play against each other? So far, I've only played for free. If there is a way to host your own server or game if you pay more, I would consider it. This could be a great LAN party game.
It looks like you should be able to create and host a custom/private lobby (based on what I've found).
Not 100% sure if that reigns true (or only applies to the console version) as I don't play the game though...
I'll check into that soon. If someone knows more about the custom / private lobby thing, please post some information here.
I can't talk about Blitz, but in OG WoT you can create training rooms but not own servers.
On the topic of World of Tanks - I'm slightly interested in this game. Watched a video of someone playing it the other night, and it looked neat!
BUT, I'm seeing some folks in forums, etc. talk about how it's "Pay to win". Is this true? Would new players be deterred from starting out because of this?
I will respond tomorrow (my timezone) in a longer way......
In short. It can be a great game, but the Devs decided years ago to power creep everything.
I haven't paid a dime yet, but I can see that if you want a medium or heavy tank, you'll need to pony up some cash. I'm still playing with light tanks. It's lots of fun though. Many times I am on the team that is victorious.
